Brandon Thompson is an Associate Attorney in the Civil Division of the District Attorney’s office. Brandon provides legal representation to Clark County’s Social Service department, which provides services to Clark County’s most vulnerable population. Brandon continues his advocacy for the residents of Clark County by volunteering with the Southern Nevada Senior Law Program (“SNSLP”). Brandon volunteers his time to present the basics of estate planning at SNSLP’s Estate Planning Workshop. The workshop runs approximately 1 to 2 hours, and teaches general legal vocabulary and concepts (i.e., definitions of “probate,” “testate/intestate,” “personal representative/executor(rix),” etc.). The workshop also thoroughly walks through a Power of Attorney for Healthcare (DPoAH), or Advance Directive, and makes available SNSLP staff to execute each DPoAH; should the attendee wish to do so. The workshops teach residents the importance of planning for the future. The SNSLP provides a great opportunity for government attorneys to continue to give back to the community that they serve every day. Brandon is a great example of the amazing employees at the District Attorney’s office.

Our Internship Program is very special to us at the Clark County DA’s Office. Sometimes we are one stop on our interns’ journey. They learn. They challenge themselves. They grow. Then they go out into the world and do great things. Many times, however, interns come back to us. These interns connect with the work of prosecutors, and they return to build upon the foundation they built and continue to develop their skills and knowledge with our mentorship and support. This summer we have a trio of best friends who were interns together in the fall of 2021 as undergrad students and have returned to us as law student interns. Alexandra Archambeau, Jordan De La Garza, & Sydney Szostek all attended UNLV undergrad together. They applied to law school together. They entered UNLV Boyd School of Law together. They have supported each other through the rigors of law school. Now they are back in our Summer Internship Program together!

We love supporting our interns’ journeys. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to provide a space for our interns to develop into talented professionals. Being a part of the journey of Alexandra, Jordan, & Sydney for the last 3 years has been incredibly special. We knew them when!

There are two fundamental aspects of the U.S. criminal justice system: the presumption that the defendant is innocent, and the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Balancing the interests of victims, the community, and the constitutional rights of the defendant is a top priority for the Clark County District Attorney’s Office.

If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to be a trial attorney with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, look no further than Deputy District Attorney Haley Jaramillo and Deputy District Attorney Ron Evans, who demonstrate professionalism on the highest level. Earlier this year, Haley and Ron teamed up in a trial involving a series of armed robberies, a residential burglary, kidnapping of an elderly person, battery with use of a deadly weapon on an elderly person, and a felony evading. The defendant in the case represented himself and Haley and Ron took the utmost care in protecting the defendant’s rights while continuing to be formidable advocates in the courtroom, ultimately securing a guilty verdict.

Two years as a prosecutor with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, Haley is currently assigned to the “Resort Corridor Court,” where she focuses on crimes committed on the Las Vegas Strip. Ron, a three-year prosecutor, is currently assigned to our General Litigation Team and the Gun Crimes Unit, where he focuses on fi****ms related crimes throughout Clark County, Nevada.

Haley and Ron embody Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson’s unwavering commitment to the pursuit of justice while operating at the highest ethical standards.

Ensuring justice for the most vulnerable in our community is the driving force behind the team of prosecutors that comprise the Clark County District Attorney’s Special Victims’ Unit (SVU). SVU deputies have committed themselves to prosecuting some of the most egregious and heinous crimes, including child s*xual abuse, adult s*xual assault, vulnerable victim s*x crimes, child physical abuse, cold cases, child s*xual abuse images and s*x trafficking.

Meet SVU Team Chief, Stacey Kollins. Stacey has dedicated 20 years to the prosecution of special victim’s cases.

Most recently, Stacey, along with Chief Deputy Parker Brooks (Gun Crimes Unit), prosecuted and convicted Antwon Perkins. Perkins was convicted of abducting and s*xually assaulting a child on her way to school. Perkins was a stranger to the child. Due to Stacey and Parker’s hard work and advocacy, Perkins was convicted of the crimes with which he was charged and sentenced to 110 years to life in prison. The sentence imposed in the Perkins case means that a predator is off our streets and our kids are a little safer.

The team of hard-working attorneys on the Special Victim’s Unit see the worst of society. These cases are by no means easy, and the aftermath can have lifelong implications. Our SVU prosecutors work closely with survivors, families, law enforcement, CPS, advocates, medical teams and mental health providers to bring cases to a just end.

If you want to seek justice for our most vulnerable populations, including children, join our team.

If you want to be a trial attorney, look no further than the Clark County District Attorney’s Office.

Earlier this year, Chief Deputy District Attorney John Giordani and Deputy District Attorney John Taylor tried and obtained a guilty verdict on a First-Degree Murder Trial.

After only four years as a deputy district attorney, John G. was promoted to the Major Violator’s Gun Unit where he prosecuted fi****ms related cases. He was then promoted to the Major Violator’s Homicide Unit, where he has spent the last five years trying some of the most complex murder cases in Nevada. John G. learned how to effectively try homicide cases from the top prosecutors in Clark County. A firm believer in paying it forward, John G. now regularly invites first and second year deputy district attorneys to sit as second chair on his murder cases.

John T. was a beneficiary of the tremendous mentorship offered in the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. Only six months in the office as a deputy district attorney, John T. was giving opening and closing statements to a jury in a murder trial. He also had a front row seat to one of our most seasoned trial attorneys conducting voir dire, direct examinations, and rebuttal arguments. After submitting their murder trial to the jury, the two received a verdict in less than 45 minutes.

The collaborative nature of prosecutorial work allows our deputy district attorneys to build strong professional relationships, work as part of a team, and contribute to a coordinated effort to achieve justice for victims of crimes.

One of the distinguishing features of the Clark County District Attorney’s Office is vertical prosecution, where cases are handled on a continuous basis by the same prosecutor. This allows victims to work with the same prosecutor from the time potential charges are first reviewed through the sentencing of the offender. Vertical prosecution has shown to improve conviction rates, reduce victim trauma, and provide more consistent, appropriate sentencing.

Only a few months into the office, Elan Elder took a case he worked up from initial arraignment to grand jury, and finally to jury trial. The case involved complex legal issues regarding a citizen’s arrest defense. Since Elan had developed a relationship with the victims and had an in-depth knowledge of the case, he questioned the major witnesses in the case including the two victims and the lead detective. The case also had over 100 exhibits including medical records, photographs, and video, all which Elan prepared and managed at trial.

Elan’s trial partner was none other than Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Clemons. A 17-year veteran of the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, Jennfier had tried countless jury trials including murders and s*xual assaults. In her new role as Team Chief, Jennifer works with our junior deputy district attorneys, helping them develop their litigation skills. For Jennifer, mentoring the next generation of prosecutors has been one of the highlights of her career.

If you want to make an impact on individual lives and the overall safety of our community, become a Clark County Deputy District Attorney.

The Clark County District Attorney’s Office has top-notch prosecutors. Deputy District Attorneys James Puccinelli and Kelly Porazzo are the embodiment of hard work and excellence. James and Kelly recently obtained a guilty verdict on a Battery with Deadly Weapon trial.

This was Kelly’s first jury trial. Only eight months into being a deputy district attorney, Kelly was giving opening and closing statements to a jury!

Less than two years in the office, James was recently promoted to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) team, where he is focused on prosecuting large-scale drug trafficking organizations and drug-induced homicides.

Fighting for our most vulnerable victims is emotionally intense and legally challenging, but James and Kelly handle it with compassion, tenacity, and fearlessness – all of which are mandatory for someone to be a successful prosecutor.

We are proud to call them Clark County Deputy District Attorneys.

The Clark County District Attorney’s Office has long been committed to ensuring fair and just prosecutions, providing support and resources for victims of crimes, and creating initiatives designed to involve our community partners in crime prevention. But our role doesn’t stop there. It is equally important for our prosecutors to support and mentor the next generation of attorneys. Earlier this year, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office hosted a Town Hall for those studying for the July Bar Exam.

Meet three of our panelists:

Yu Meng – currently assigned to the Vehicular Crimes Unit, Yu’s most memorable trial was a hit-and-run involving a three-year-old victim. This case highlights the reason why Yu chose to become prosecutor: to fight for people who cannot fight for themselves.

Ron Evans – for Ron, the best part of being a Clark County Deputy District Attorney is how quickly he was involved in the prosecution of felony cases. Within his first two years in the office, Ron was lead counsel on a murder trial. Ron is currently assigned to a General Litigation Team and the Gang Unit.

Alfa Alemayehu – one of the District Attorney’s most recent hires (Class of 2023), Alfa has been with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office for two years, first as an intern then a law clerk. Currently assigned to a General Litigation Team, Alfa hopes one day to be a member of our Special Victims Unit (SVU) where she can seek justice for victims of s*xual assault.

The position of a deputy district attorney is tailor-made for those who wish to seek justice, help victims of crimes, and perform a valuable public service for our community.

Open and continuous recruitment starts soon. Stay tuned for details on how to apply.
