CASA of the South Plains held our fourth Swearing-In ceremony of the year this month! We are so excited to see these official Volunteer Advocates start advocating for children who have been desperately waiting for someone to walk alongside them!

A HUGE Congratulations to Jerry Jones, Taryn Lubbers, Crystal Borhani, and Debbie Savage! Each of these individuals will make a huge impact as a CASA Volunteer!❤️

We would also like to give a special thank you to Judge Darnell for presiding over the Swearing-In! She shared, "Because CASA is only invested in one child or sibling group at a time, that really allows for them to connect with the child/children on an individual level and make the best possible recommendations."

We would also like to thank JSW Advisory for generously providing a delicious lunch from Cast Iron Grill for our swearing-in ceremony! An additional thanks to Dions Pizza, Domino's Pizza, Raising Cane's, and The Plaza for keeping our new volunteers focused and full during training!

We look forward to coaching each of these individuals as they take on their new role as a CASA Volunteer Advocate! When a CASA Volunteer becomes a part of a child's story, that child gets to choose the ending.

For more information about how you can become a CASA, contact Tabitha Rendon at [email protected].

Today is , the day that commemorates when the last remaining enslaved people were freed in the United States when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas in 1865.

As we acknowledge and celebrate significant strides toward justice, may we continue to strive for more. There is much work still to be done to ensure our child welfare system is equitable for all.

About CASA of the South Plains

The Challenge
Each year, the state of Texas removes thousands of children from their homes because of abuse and neglect. These victimized children are often drawn into a complex system of social workers, foster homes, and service providers that is overburdened and hard pressed to address their individual needs. They may also be forced to endure the experience of being separated from their siblings and moved from foster home to foster home.

The Solution
CASA of the South Plains empowers community members to serve as Volunteer Advocates who speak for the well-being of children in the foster care system. CASA Volunteers are
community members just like you who ensure a child’s needs remain a priority in an over-burdened child welfare system while working to find safe, permanent homes for these most vulnerable children.
