DOT Helmet Failure Rate Increases To 43 Percent

Even helmets that meet DOT standards are not that much protection. However turns out around half the helmets with DOT stickers don't even meet those minimal standards. The helmet industry is still in it's infancy and the materials needed to provide real protection are still not invented or in use yet. That said, even a novelty helmet provides some protection. Helmets primarily provide protection against secondary impacts. The things that happen after you leave the bike. They offer zero protection for spine and torso of course. They do offer pretty good abrasion protection for the face, if it's a full face, though there's real questions as to whether you'd hit face first to start with if you were not wearing a full face. The extra weight tends to make a rider top heavy. Though if the bike throws you down the right way your going down face first helmet or no helmet. Mostly is' crotch rocket riders though that go face first. The way the bike forces them to sit pushing them forward and down, and any rapid deceleration tends to launch the rider forward and down due to the way the bike is designed, where cruisers usually have the rider sitting straight up or leaned back, which tends to set you down butt or side down.

So I wouldn't toss your lid, but I would suggest researching it to see if it's one of the failed brands. If it is you probably want to replace it.

I cannot stress enough, NEVER NEVER get a false sense of confidence in your ability to survive a wreck helmet or no helmet. Even if you survive, you'll likely suffer very serious injuries. Never let a helmet lull you into any sort of false sense of safety. They are only rated for wrecks of 10mph, and only forces from certain directions and of certain types. Avoid the wreck if at all possible. Ride like you have no helmet even if you wear one.

I ride a MOTORCYCLE and have Brothers and Sisters that do so as well so please be considerate!!!

The 3 car lengths they leave between the car in front of them isn't for you to cut them off! Contrary to popular belief, they can't stop my bike on a dime! If you see them coming down the road while you're waiting to pull out from your driveway or an intersecting road, they are going faster than you think, so please wait those few extra seconds to let them pass you by...If you're trying to make a right turn on red, don't do it in front of them, you don't have the right of way!
They speed up, when in your blind spot, not to race, but so you see them!

Don't try to pass them on the right just to cut them off.
They ride in the left lane, 10-15 MPH over the speed limit so they only have to worry about cars on their right side.

Please put your phone down, and STOP TEXTING, because the life you jeopardize cobe my Brothers/Sisters and others who have Children, Wives, Husbands, and Parents to come home to.

When making a lane change, the manufacturer of the car you bought installed little devices known as MIRRORS and TURN SIGNALS, so I strongly suggest that you use them every time and also, don't be afraid to give a quick look over your shoulder before you barge into the lane they possess.
They ride with my high beams on at times so you can see me and they can see deer.

So PLEASE watch out for me and all my Brothers and Sisters, every time you are on the road... Better yet, make it a habit and we'll all be better off!

While riding to post, in a group of 12, we passed a slow vehicle. While we were working our way back into the right lane, an inpatient blonde, in a Mercedes, decided to passed our group in the right lane. At this time half of the group was already in the right lane. She slammed on her brakes, and raised her hands, as if the front group was in the wrong. I yelled at her to slow down, and she just rolled her eyes. She finally got into the left (correct) lane. She sure did get told that she was illegally passing and the bird.
