Wilderness Search Investigations

Searching for missing outdoor enthusiasts after official efforts have been suspended. We get boots on the ground and drones in the air.

Currently, we will be keeping this site to missing people in the wilderness only. Wilderness Search Investigations provides professionally trained personnel and volunteers to search for missing people in the wilderness. We plan searches using our Lead Ground Searcher who is certified in Search and Rescue Management and Search Theory with 15 years’ experience along with the use of licensed sUAS (dr

It’s springtime and everyone is itching to get out and explore the wonders of the mountains. I have been on many search and rescue missions where overdue hikers were unprepared without all 10 essentials. For the best outcome possible even if it is “just a day hike”, have on you these 10 essentials and know how to use them.

1. Navigation: map, altimeter, compass, [GPS device], [PLB, satellite communicator, or satellite phone], [extra batteries or battery pack]
2. Headlamp: plus, extra batteries
3. Sun protection: sunglasses, sun-protective clothes, and sunscreen
4. First aid: including foot care and insect repellent (if required)
5. Knife: plus, repair kit (For fixing zippers on the pack, duct tape to hold the sole of your boot on if necessary)
6. Fire: matches, lighter and tinder, or stove as appropriate
7. Shelter: always carried (can be a lightweight emergency bivy)
8. Extra food: beyond minimum expectation
9. Extra water: beyond minimum expectation, or the means to purify
10. Extra clothes: sufficient to survive an emergency overnight

Items within brackets [ ] can be shared by a group.

And most often overlooked items:
• Shelter
• Extra food, extra water, and extra clothing

Hello everyone,

I wanted to inform everyone that the new secured website for Wilderness Search Investigations (WSI) is now up and running. It has a new look and is where the Missing Outdoor Enthusiasts database will be posted. It is currently being worked on and will be increasing over time. Keep checking back for more information and details.

Tell all your family and friends as well and to both like and follow all our social media sites. Especially the people that get out into the wilderness. They could be a second set of eyes in helping to solve these cases. We are looking to get the world to follow our website, page, Instagram, and YouTube channel. WSI’s goal is to go worldwide as our services are in great demand everywhere.

If you have any information regarding any of the missing outdoor enthusiasts or their equipment, PLEASE leave the equipment at the location untouched, if possible, take a picture, mark your coordinates, note the brands/colors/sizes then contact us at [email protected].

Have a great weekend!

Thank You!

Had a great day enjoying the solitude of nature, having lunch by a creek and great conversation today. Of course, we covered more ground area in our search for Shirley Baumann.

If interested in helping some Saturday, please get in touch.

Help search for missing outdoor enthusiasts.

Looking for as many volunteers in helping with ground searching for July 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th. Be a part in helping to bring closure to these families.

Trail:
The Snoqualmie Lake trail also known as Taylor River trail begins at approx. 1,100' with a steady climb up the Quartz Creek trail to 2,383'. 5.0 miles round trip to the collapsed bridge + search area(s), (https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/quartz-creek-lake-blethen).

Search Info:
The search area is off-trail starting between the collapsed bridge and the camp site, on the downhill side. Even though this is a day hike, please have on you a 24-hr. pack. Would also recommend leather work gloves for being off trail. If you have a GPS, please bring it along for making tracks of the search area. Having the GPS Datum preset to WGS84 and Location set to UTM ahead of time will save time at the trailhead. A GPS is not required, nice to have though. I would like to get a copy of everyone's tracks in a .gpx format.

Directions:
I-90 to exit 34 (North Bend), N on 468th Ave SE to SE Middle Fork Road, turn right, remain on this main road to the end. Be careful when the pavement ends as there are some serious potholes. Northwest Forest Pass required.

Meeting:
Meeting at the trailhead at 8:00am. A brief discussion on the search type and how its performed. On the trail by 8:30am. I will be driving a maroon Subaru Outback. I will supply hydration packets to all that attend.

If you are interested in helping, please reach out and let use know. A head count is needed. If the weather turns for the worse, the search will be cancelled.

The nonprofit I founded, Wilderness Search Investigations, is creating a database. This database consists of all missing outdoor enthusiasts in the wilderness. There is no single database of information available currently. The researchers working on the project already have roughly 700 names Nationwide.

Keep checking back for updates on the missing outdoor enthusiasts. The postings will be coming from Missing in America’s wild lands. The admin is assisting with our database.
