Rush Creek Cemetery
This page is dedicated to the history and perpetual care of Rush Creek Cemetery Maple Grove, Minneso
We honor and remember.
We placed American Flags on 33 graves to honor our veterans.
This post is from Kyle Klatke.I am still staying on as An admin on the page.I was out to the cemetery the other day and it is looking fantastic. I meant to post this the other day. But got distracted. the picture on the left is of the methodist church that used to be on the cemetery property. The tree to the right of the church is the same oak tree that is currently in the center of the property. Now from this photo, we can easily guess This tree between 175 to 200 years old. Also for those of you who don't know, there is a historic site just on the West side of the house that is next to the cemetery.
This is where this photo comes from. It is called the OX CART site. Please check it out next time. You visit the cemetery. There are other photos and information.
Memorial Day is approaching. We'll be placing new flags on the Veterans' graves. Please help us update our list.

A special thanks to Meghan Carstensen for donating a new American flag to her grandparents cemetery.
This is from a really cool old cemetery that I visited in Idaho last year. I don't think I have posted this. Thanks again to all the new board members. You guys are doing a fantastic job.
Plots will be available for purchase again starting tomorrow, May 1st. We have decided to increase the cost of plots to 2000.00. We have approximately 40 left available before we are full. If you are interested in purchasing one, please email us at [email protected] or call 763-516-3352. Thank you all for your patience during this transition.
The new board of the Rush Creek Cemetery :
Jim Price is the President. He's a newly retired man (with lots of skills) who lives in Maple Grove. Cindy Price is the Treasurer and also Jim's wife. Cindy's interest in Rush Creek Cemetery is because her beloved parents, Wayne and Shirley Martin, are buried there.
Theresa Prescott is the Secretary. Theresa is our younger, tech savvy member. She lives in the area and has offered to be a part of this board. Her brother is buried at Rush Creek and her interest in keeping everything going well is the same as ours.
***We would like to thank Kyle for his hardwork and all the time he's put into keeping the records and making the transition smooth for all of us. We are so grateful. Your service over 9 years has been a blessing.
More to come . . .
The change of leadership is complete at Rush Creek Cemetery. I will let the new board members introduce themselves at their convienience. I would like to thank everyone for their support over the past 9 years. I would also like to mention one last reminder. We are a 501C13 which means any donation to the perpetual care fund is fully tax deductible. While we are still ok financially, I would like to point out that we did spend alot of our funds fixing up the cemetery. We are always open to donations. Simply message us and we will get you the info for where to send your donations. Checks would always be made out to the Rush Creek Cemetery Association.
Thanks again, Kyle
I thought this would be fun to post. I have not posted it before. It is an amended Plat from 1921, heavy cloth like paper. If you zoom in, you can read the names. Addock, Banker and Evans Were the board members of the time. I had to take 2 pictures, so you could read it. I think the methodist church may have still been up at that time.

I just thought I would give some examples of what is the family's responsibility As far as markers go. We have somebody that I have used to do a number of things who is very good and I consider reasonably priced. Let me know if you are interested. See the captions below each picture.
I wanted to share the last 3 markers we just had done. This will be the last of the Improvements. In case anyone is wondering when it came to choosing what markers to replace. I tried to pick ones that either never had a marker. Or it was very clear to me that the family was long gone and children came first. There are certainly more that could have been done, but eventually the money does run out. I would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who has donated over the years to help do things like this. If anyone knows anything about these 3 children, please post something.
Please remember that the family is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of their own monuments. This has been in our by laws for decades. If you ever believe something has been damaged by any of the work that has been done At the cemetery, please private message me And provide details. And I will look into it. It has happened before, and we do hold our contractors responsible. If you have a monument or marker that has sunk, is sinking or leaning it is your responsibility to find someone to Take Care of it. I just had my brother's 30 year old Marker straightened at my expense.
Dear rush Creek cemetery enthusiast. I am looking for donations. I am willing to donate $1200 myself. I would like To fix up the following markers on the list. We do not want to use any more Current cemetery funds As we are working toward turning the cemetery over to the city of Maple Grove and want to be able to give them a reasonable sum. Also below are examples of other ones We have fixed up last year. If you are interested in helping, Private message me and I will give you my address. you will make a check out to the rush Creek cemetery association And I will get them to our treasurer. if I get enough money and get it quick enough I will get this work done asap. I do not want to do this through the FB donation page because it takes too long. Remember, we are a 501c13 So your donation would be fully tax deductible. If I were fortunate enough to get more than $4000. There are other markers that need to be fixed as well.
It's a beautiful morning. So I thought I would take a video to showcase all of the recent improvements And how nice it looks out here.
Here is a little known fact about the cemetery. the tree in the picture is a Burr oak. I estimate that it is 150 to 200 years old. I know this because of a historic photo of when the Methodist church was on this property. Every year, the 3 rivers park district calls me and asks me if they can gather Acorns from this and one other White oak tree. They want the genetics and they plant hundreds of them every year. I believe.
I just stopped by the cemetery this morning. These 3 markers have been placed just in the last couple of weeks. Also, the bollards have been installed at the arch. Judy Carlson was my aunt. Dan Perlberg was my stepfather. Ronald Cleveland was not known to me but his marker is new and I Like that, he was also a Vietnam vet.
Well, as if the new Arch was not exciting enough. We just got all new black vinyl. Coated chain link fence all the way around the cemetery. 4 feet high in front and 6 feet high all 3 other sides.
Well, this is the most exciting news I've had to share in quite some time. The new iron arch is in. I would like to thank our treasurer Grady Kinghorn and his team from King horn construction for getting this taken care of. I would also like to thank crystal welding. They did the actual welding and iron work.
Wishing everyone a happy Memorial Day or at least as happy as it can be. Just wanted to share a few pics from the cemetery And thank everyone who has served. My Apologies for not getting the flags out this year.
I had to stop at the cemetery this morning and just Got these shots of turkeys and deer.
I wanted to share the most recent marker that was installed just yesterday.Joan and Dan Perlberg were my mother and stepfather. They both passed within a week of each other last summer. They are finally at peace next to my brother who passed in 1993. Notice what we did with the back of the marker.putting the names of their children. I wish more people would do that. I think this is the only marker out there with that feature. It was just an idea I came up with.
The cemetery association officially formed on December 12th 1868
Quite possibly the nicest pictures ever taken at Rush Creek Cemetery . Shared by permission from the Spaanum family
I am very excited to share this update. This has been a personal thing that I have wanted to do for some time. For those that follow this page you know that we did a fund raiser Earlier this year . We raised about 3 to $400. Thank you very much to those who donated . My mom and stepfather passed away this summer a week apart June 30th and July 7th . Therefore I did not have much time to put into this Fund raiser. So another generous donor and myself put the rest of the money into this project . We did about a dozen of these . 2 more we'll go in the Spring. The cost of this project was about $5000. We did not use any of the cemetery money . I was hoping by showing the results that we might get more donations and be able to do more of this sort of thing. We would also like to replace our chain link fence with a new black Chain link vinyl fence. There are also many old markers that should be raised and have a wash put around them . So I guess what I am getting at is that we are always looking for donations and the money will be spent on those projects . Please remember that we are a registered 501C13 and all donations To the perpetual care fund are fully tax deductible. Donations can always be sent to our treasurer Grady Kinghorn at Kinghorn construction in Rogers I will also make a follow up post to my presidency and such Very Soon
I wanted to share an update about the project we have been trying to raise money for. Pictured are the Markers we are going to replace. Most of them were infants or children that died on the wagon trail. So far we have raised about $400.I donated 500 and another generous donor has put in About 3000 and we have a 1000 leftover from other donations from the shed project. With this $5000 we are able to replace about 13 markers markers. 12 of which will be done this year. one more will be done in the Spring. We would love to do more of these so we are still looking for donations. We raised about $7000 for the shed project 2 years ago and I think we can do better this time. Thank you very much to all those who have donated already. I will share pictures when they are replaced.
