We know that a cancer diagnosis can bring on so many emotions, we want to do our best to find some positive in every moment we are in. What is one positive thing that has come out of your gyn cancer diagnosis?
"I knew I had to fight because my mom was dead, no sweet ovarian cancer. So I knew for me, the most positive thing is to fight and don't give up."

Teal Tuesday. Sisters from Sigma Alpha Omega are always such huge supporter of Teal Diva. They are spreading knowledge of ovarian cancer awareness on their college campuses across the US.
Symptoms to be aware of - bloating or feeling full quickly, difficulty eating, back pain, pelvic or abdominal pain/pressure, frequent or urgent urination, constipation or changes in bowel habits, and fatigue. There is no test that one can take to detect ovarian cancer. Advocate for yourself and listen to your body, knowledge is power!

What advice would you give to someone going through their diagnosis, treatment, and recovery?
"Give yourself permission to have a pity party, cry, and get angry, but then make the decision to go into warrior mode to fight this battle. I was constantly being told that I had such a positive attitude and I was handling it all so well, and although I was not always feeling this way, I decided that I was going to pretend that my life was normal, even when it was far from normal. I never let myself think that I wouldn't beat my cancer, and I used alternative treatments along with the traditional treatments. I never wanted to think that I didn't do everything I could to beat the cancer. A positive attitude is a must! When you're feeling ok, do the things you love and accept the offers for help! This was something I had to learn to do because I'm very independent and rarely ask for help. Talk to other women who have been through it already and use your friends and family as a support system."

"My diagnosis, though many years after its inception, taught me how to really live. It taught me how to play and frolic and dance and sing, and all of the things typically associated with childhood. I know now that these things are childish, they are necessary."

Teal Diva is all about connection, we want to connect survivors and their families with each other. Without connections in this world of diagnosis, treatments, schedules, tests, scans we loose sight of hope and we can start to spiral. We want to bring you back, back to connecting with other survivors who know exactly what YOU are going through.
We want to connect with you! www.tealdiva.org

Our Story
Teal Diva was created in 2009 shortly after the founder, Shannon Routh, was diagnosed with ovarian {k}ancer. “I struggled with relating to anyone my age, and support groups just weren’t my thing,” says Shannon. Through prayer, many discussions with her husband and friends, Teal Diva was created. The initial goal of Teal Diva was for Shannon to meet one person who had a similar story as hers. Since its creation, she has had the opportunity to meet many young women affected by this disease. “While I would never wish this disease on a single soul, I am blessed to meet so many wonderful people because of it”. As Shannon evolves in her journey, so does Teal Diva. “I am able to take my experiences and stories from those I meet and put it back into Teal Diva. It is my goal for those affected by this disease to have a sense of belonging. If we can’t find it, we will create it.”
Why do we spell {k}ancer a little differently? When our founder was diagnosed, she received all sorts of advice. Advice like…it’s all about your attitude. One friend even told said, who cares how you spell it or say it. Don’t dignify this disease by spelling it correctly…it’s OK to color outside the lines when you have {k}ancer. That advice kind of stuck with her as she went through treatment and still stays with her today. However you want to look at it…YOU are a fighter…YOU are a survivor…YOU are a woman who has earned the right to spell it and say it any way you like. You have earned the right to color outside the lines.
