🚨 Heat Health Advisory in Effect for TOMORROW, July 🚨
The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) and Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), with the National Weather Service (NWS), have issued a Heat Health Advisory for Sunday, July 14, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Southeastern Wisconsin.
🌡️ Heat Index values are expected to reach 100+ degrees. Another advisory may be issued for Monday.
MHD is monitoring heat-related illnesses and working with partners to support vulnerable populations. For emergency services, call Impact 211. Additional guidance on hot weather safety can be found at Milwaukee.gov/HotWeatherSafety.
Stay Safe ➡️Follow These Tips:
Stay Cool:
- Limit physical activity and stay in air-conditioned spaces.
- Never leave children or pets in parked cars.
- Wear light, loose clothing.
- Take cool baths or showers.
- Use wet towels to cool down.
- Avoid using fans as the primary cooling method.
- Check on at-risk individuals twice a day.
Stay Hydrated:
- Drink plenty of water, even if not thirsty.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
- Remind others to stay hydrated.
Stay Informed:
- Follow local news for updates and safety tips.
- Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Check on vulnerable friends, relatives, and neighbors.

Starting Sunday, July 7, 2024, the Tippecanoe, Good Hope, and Central Library locations will be open year-round on Sundays from 1-5 pm. These expanded hours are designed to respond to our community's needs for additional hours to read, learn, and connect.

We've partnered with LUNA, LLC, Near West Side Partners, Inc., and Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers to install a Paint the Pavement street mural in the newly-closed right-turn slip lane at the intersection of Highland Avenue & 27th Street.

Tomorrow, June 18, and Monday, June 24 eastbound W. Walnut Street will be closed between Vel R. Phillips Avenue and 2nd Street as curb and gutter work are poured in the project area.
Tomorrow's closure is estimated for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Monday's closure is estimated for 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. We anticipate opening the two-block area to traffic after 4 p.m. each day. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

With snow today and even more snow in the forecast tomorrow here are a few helpful reminders. Always follow posted signs and park as close to the curb as possible to give room for the large salt and plow trucks to pass through streets. If there are impacts to garbage and recycling or a snow emergency is called it will be announced. So, make sure you follow us online, social media and sign-up for alerts for the latest information. Milwaukee.gov/snow also has helpful information and answers to frequently asked questions.
