Modesto City Firefighter's Local 1289

Modesto firefighters have responded to several working structure fires over the last several days, while not uncommon for our crews we still want to stress the importance of having working smoke detectors and having 2 ways out of your home in case of an emergency.

This week Modesto Firefighters had members travel down to San Diego to participate in the California Firefighter Summer Games with firefighters from all over the state. Some of the events included Softball, Pickleball, Over the Line, Bowling, and Corn Hole. Thanks to the San Diego Firefighters for hosting the games. Local 1289 also sends condolences to our brothers and sisters at Local 55 and the Oakland Fire Department.

Thanks to Stockton Firefighters Local 456 for hosting today’s charity softball tournament. Your Modesto Firefighters went undefeated, taking 1st place in the upper division.

Graffiti weekend down at the union hall! Thanks to everyone that made it out!

Today at 4:42pm Modesto Fire units were dispatched to call for a person that had fallen into an open storm drain on J street in the city of Oakdale. Upon arrival crews observed that a delivery driver had stepped out of his vehicle and fell down in the sewer pipe. This triggered a full response from the technical rescue team. The patient was extricated and flown to a local hospital to treat his injuries. No further details are available at this time.

This past week L1289 sent board members to the California Professional Firefighters 49th biennial convention in Carlsbad. This convention allowed 1289 board members to meet with CPF officials and participate in committees about resolutions brought forward throughout the state. 1289 member, past president, and former CPF 3rd District VP Jair Jaurez was also awarded Emeritus status at this year's convention.

Modesto Firefighters once again teamed up with Six Strings for Freedom to bring you Travis Denning and Carson Wallace on May 11th at Dying Breed Brewing in Oakdale. Proceeds from this concert will go to Modesto Firefighters Charity’s, so come out and enjoy some country music with us! Tickets can be purchased at www.sixstringsforfreedom.com

Less than a week away for Modesto Firefighters first annual bass tournament! Tournament will take place on May 4th at Lake McClure, registration is still available, Big fish payout option, raffle and BBQ post tournament. Thanks to everyone that came out today to watch the battle of the badges in Oakdale and for supporting Oakdale Baseball and Softball Association.

Join us tomorrow for a family fun event at TL Davis in Oakdale for the second annual Battle of the Badges, MFD vs OPD! Gates open at 1pm with a game time of 3pm. All proceeds for the event will go to the Oakdale Baseball and Softball Association. We hope to see you there!
