Our littlest learners got their moment to shine too!
Last week we celebrated our Kindergarten class at a graduation ceremony with our CQA community! These scholars worked so hard and grew so much this school year. We are so proud of each of them and cannot wait to see what they accomplish in first grade next year!

Congratulations to our college-going class of 2028! Our eighth grade scholars celebrated their graduation at a ceremony with family and teachers last week. Twenty-one of these scholars will attend specialized, selective, and elite private high schools, our highest number ever. All of our eighth graders accomplished so much this year and we are proud of each and every one of them. These scholars are the class of 2028 because that is the year when they will graduate high school and enter college.
Scholars, always remember that you are . And you always have a home at CQA - come back and visit us!
We couldn't be more proud of the scholars in CQA's Jazz Band. In addition to a performance at CQA last month, scholars also performed with other jazz students from around the city at two jazz clubs in Brooklyn. Scholars in both our advanced band and beginners band proved their talent and their commitment to learning. They improve more and more with every lesson. Congratulations scholars, you did an incredible job!
Thanks to our partner, Jazz Empowers for helping us make CQA's music program come to life. And thanks to CQA parent Luane for the extra video footage of our budding musicians!

We've had so much fun celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! All month long scholars learned about members of the AANHPI community who have made historical contributions to our communities, our nation, and our world.
CQA was founded by a group of first- and second-generation Asian American New Yorkers who saw a need for our school in the community. They aimed to create a school that centers and celebrates the experiences of our diverse community and provides our unique group of scholars with the support they need to excel. We're so thankful for their vision and commitment to the success of our school.
Congratulations to the cast and crew of CQAβs 2024 performance of Shrek the Musical, Jr!

Amazing work scholars! You are stars!
Last quarter we were honored to welcome author Carrie Firestone to CQA as part of our Living Author Series. Our seventh grade scholars read Ms. Firestone's novel Dress Coded prior to her visit and they were able to ask thought-provoking questions about the book as well as her experience as an author. We're so grateful to Ms. Firestone for sharing her time with us and for inspiring our scholars to read what interests them and to put their own thoughts, feelings and experiences into their writing.
We're looking forward to continuing this series and welcoming more authors to our school soon!

The best part about being at a school with such a culturally diverse student body is we can always find a shared community within our school and we are always learning from one another. As many in our community celebrate the end of Ramadan, we thank our scholars for sharing why this time is so special to them and their families. Eid Mubarak!

Last week our middle school staff and scholars had so much fun participating in an Easter egg hunt and a trivia contest for prizes. It was a great way to head into the holiday weekend.
But we know that Easter is about much more than egg hunts, baskets and candy (yum!). To all of our friends, staff, scholars and families who celebrate, we wish you a blessed and joyful Easter. We hope your celebration with your family is peaceful and memorable.

EXCITING NEWS!!
CQA II which is opening in August, has a new home right next door to CQA I at the corner of Queens Boulevard and 55th Avenue in Elmhurst!
After being granted a second charter by our authorizer, SUNY-Charter Schools Institute last October, we have been working hard to get CQA II ready for an August opening, including staffing, curriculum development and identifying and preparing a new school building.
We're excited to announce that CQA II will be located right next door to CQA I in a second brand-new construction facility. Together our schools will create a 120,000 square foot campus in the heart of our community in Elmhurst. We look forward to welcoming elementary school families to this new school in August.
Families interested in applying for grades K or 1 can apply to both CQA I and CQA II at the same time using one application.
We'll add grades 2, 3, and 4 over the course of the next couple of years.
