UAGC TRAVELS: Dominican Republic Trip:
During our trip, we aimed to increase awareness about the crucial significance of preserving and restoring ecosystems in the Dominican Republic. Through our collaboration with the Dream Project, our students were actively engaged in hands-on initiatives, including reforestation, clean-ups, sustainable farming practices, and educational programs focused on STEM, literacy, and sports for students in grades K-6. Additionally, our students had the opportunity to learn about Dominican Republic history, colonization, agriculture production, and the current state of the country.

During their 5-day stay, students partnered with Cabarete Sostenible to work at the only organic farm in the Cabarete area, which aims to eliminate food insecurity. Cabarete Sostenible was founded during the pandemic when the community realized that all their food was imported, leading to food insecurity in the area. Through the Dream Project, students taught STEM, literacy, and sports to students in grades K-6 to support their mission. The DREAM Project implements a unique literacy approach based on research best practices, including direct instruction in phonics, decoding, reading comprehension, and critical-thinking skills. Classes were delivered through differentiated, individualized, and small group instruction using age-appropriate materials to engage students.

Today the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) facilitated presentations to discuss mental health. A big thank you to Nina, Lady Charlamaine (and Porkiepoo) for sharing their stories and helping to de stigmatize mental health conditions.
Students had a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be at the NASDAQ opening bell ceremony this morning. Students witnessed LionGate announcing their initial public offering (IPO) during the opening bell ceremony, toured the NASDAQ Stock Exchange in Times Square, and learned about investments. Students gained real-world, practical knowledge of financial literacy concepts: invest at a young age to gain long-term benefits and diversify your risk. Students feel empowered to invest in their future, thanks to NASDAQ for hosting us.

Thank you to:

• Our teachers who have gone above and beyond to help make school a welcoming learning environment where students can thrive.
• Our administrators who help us work together to ensure we are healthy and safe, feel a
