What is Dance Theater? Through a series of interviews during my editorship The Dance Enthusiast, I have collected testimonies from pioneers and contemporary creators in . These conversations about the training and choreographic methodologies in Dance Theater help bridge the gap between dance and theater training, as well as the lineage of European and American dance theater and its current expressions.
As a Latina choreographer with 34 years of experience, my journey from classical ballet to modern dance to dance theater has equipped me with a deep understanding of this interplay.
THE DANCE ENTHUSIAST ASKS: Annie B. Parson on What Dance Theater Means to Her "I'll take from the pleasures of theater, but not all of them because I don't find them enjoyable. I'm not into narrative, story, arc, and all those things. Actually, I don't even believe in it." — Annie-B Parson, New York
How do you capture dance, gestures, and the invisible impulses of life through the camera?
It was a beautiful time (and a lot of hard work) last week filming our NEW dance film "Listen to Your Mother" at the magical white box stage at CPR-Center for Performance Research with Todd Carroll
Be on the lookout this coming Fall for its premiere!
“Lenzu takes great risks in this profoundly original, tour de force work, revealing her own body, semi-nude, in awkward, sometimes sexual displays; while simultaneously voicing the struggles, deep loneliness, and pleasures that often accompany the labors of creation in motherhood and artwork.”
Honored to receive such a beautiful review for our show “Listen to Your Mother” at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club last May.

Anabella Lenzu Sets the Mood in Class by Sticking With One Album - Dance Teacher Anabella Lenzu doesn’t use playlists in her dance classes. Instead, she puts on full albums. “I feel like if I play different songs from different composers, it’s too distracting,” she says. On the other hand, she feels like “one album is an exploration.”
Honored to receive such a beautiful review for our show “Listen to Your Mother” at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club last May.
Thanks Mary Seidman and Eye On Dance and The Arts
"Lenzu combined her many talents as a choreographer, visual artist, scholar, and performer in this tightly woven, intricate work, revealing the inner landscape of women, the female body, motherhood’s complexities, working women artists, and the significance of live theater."
