In 1989, architect I.M. Pei stood before one of his most iconic creations, the Louvre Pyramid in Paris. This glass and metal pyramid, completed that same year, serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum and sparked public debate for its modernist contrast with the classic French Renaissance style of the Louvre. The pyramid enhances the museum’s accessibility and circulation, integrating natural light that illuminates the underground lobby and galleries. Composed of 673 glass panes, it exemplifies Pei's skill in blending historical and contemporary architectural styles, showcasing his mastery of form and light.

From The Athletic: Snoop Dogg took us back 900 years to open the breaking competition. He stamped the brigadier on the ground three times, known as the les trois coups. "Les trois coups" is a medieval Parisian tradition used to signal showtime. https://nyti.ms/3yxF5P8
Holy wow!!
From The Athletic: Noah Lyles took the bronze medal Thursday in the men’s 200 meters at the Paris Olympics, then hunched over on the track, motioned for water and was eventually taken away on a makeshift wheelchair. Minutes later, he said in an interview with NBC while wearing a mask that he was diagnosed with COVID-19 two days before the race. https://nyti.ms/4dyc44K
For our next collection highlight, we're turning our attention to this artwork depicting Yama Dharmaraja, one of several terrifying forms Bodhisattva Manjushri assumed to defeat the Lord of Death.
He is black or dark blue in color, fiercely animated, and wields a skull-headed cudgel and a coiled lasso. Wearing a crown of skulls and a garland of freshly severed heads, he is surrounded by flames and stands astride a buffalo and human co**se. This black ground painting evokes the macabre setting in which Yama Dharmaraja resides: a co**se-strewn funereal ground.
As we celebrate 20 years of sharing our collection of Himalayan art, we invite you to follow along as we highlight fan-favorite objects from the Museum’s collection. While this anniversary year also marks the Rubin’s farewell to the 17th Street building, we’re still committed to sharing our renowned collection with an ever-growing, global audience through traveling exhibitions, long-term loans with other organizations, multimedia content, and so much more.

🚨 Last chance to see Harold Cohen: AARON! 🚨 The exhibition is on view only through this Sunday, May 19.
This exhibition is unlike anything we've done before, tracing the evolution of the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) program designed for making art by Harold Cohen.
Cohen devoted his life to exploring the potential of AI to translate an artist's knowledge and process into code. The works in this exhibition—the earliest of which are from the 1970s—were made with AI and include drawings, paintings, videos, and projections.

How Artists are Keeping Mountains of Dead Pointe Shoes Out of Landfills Pacific Northwest Ballet goes through roughly 2,000 pairs of pointe shoes per year. New York City Ballet uses 500 pairs per month during Nutcracker season. Some pros exhaust multiple pairs of shoes in a single performance day. Stats like those raise a big question: After the shanks have collapsed an...
Doctors unionize as healthcare services are consolidated into corporate systems As recently as the early 80s, about three of every four doctors in the U.S. worked for themselves, owning small clinics. Today, some 75 percent of physicians are employees of hospital systems or large corporate entities. Some worry the trend is leading to diminished quality of care and is one reason...
