Meet our teacher or the week!!
Ms. Hernandez at SBCIV. She attended UMASS and has been at Classical for 6 years. Her birthday is October 30th and she is a Bronx native. She likes to read, go on walks and spend time with friends. Her favorite memory of elementary school was sitting in parent teacher conferences and hearing her teachers say they are proud of her. We appreciate you!❤️
What do you love about your neighborhood? Art scholars at SBCIV showcase their skills by highlighting their neighborhoods and color blocking them! A fifth grader says what she likes about her neighborhood: ‘What I like about my neighborhood is that the people are so kind. This morning my little brother asked a girl who had flowers what they were for and her mother said ‘it’s her teacher’s birthday and that’s her present!’ I also like how it reminds me of people’s accomplishments. For example, near my house my mom has a restaurant and it reminds me of how proud I am of her.’ ❤️
Congratulations to SBCIV MIDDLE SCHOOL for winning the bulletin board competition!! Spring is the air 🌸🐰💐🌸🌹🪻🩷

Who knew learning about probability could be this fun? Ms. Abankwa builds engagement in math by introducing a name generator and virtual spinner to teach about equally likely outcomes. The activity hooked scholars’ interest and she had 100% of the class actively participating in the thinking work and discourse that followed!
Practice makes perfect! Andrea doesn’t miss a beat! Scholars in third grade embrace their music education by learning how to read music and play the recorder! 🎼 ✨
Fifth grade scholars in SBC II embark on their printmaking journey by applying drawing, carving, and stamping to create unique and dynamic imagery. Scholars work in teams during print workshop modeling printmaking techniques used by artists in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The results are fantastic! 🤩
Teacher: Andy Ruben Gonzalez
School IV
Role: 4th grade Learning Specialist
This is my first year as both a teacher and father. Having become a parent, the overall way in which I present myself to my students and how I teach them both in education and in life is very different. Having become a parent has had an even more positive impact in how I teach my students.
Growing up in a single parent household, my mother took full responsibility for me and being in school it was very rare that I came across any Latino male role models. So once I figured out that I wanted to be an educator, I knew that I wanted to a positive male role model for anyone that didn’t have one in their lives. One that even though we don’t live together, they know that I’ll be at school for my students everyday. Where I’m not just their teacher, but also a reliable father figure to them too
