A BETTER GENERATION
by Students of Hellenic Classical Charter Schools-Park Slope

Our bench is about the topic of substance abuse among young people. Abusing legal and illegal substance can have lifelong effects on your mind and body. We want to remind people to protect the younger generations, and if you are already struggling with these issues, there is always someone to help. We want to protect our generation from the influence of illegal and legal drugs, such as va**ng. Va**ng is very popular now especially with the younger generation. Just because it is popular doesn't mean it isn't bad for you. The
bench shows people that you can quit not just va**ng but other drugs also. It is never too late to stop;

Our 4th graders at HCCS-PS brought the American Revolution to life in this spectacular musical🇺🇸

Betsy Ross, a bit prone to exaggeration, tells her grandkids how the colonies became a nation. It’s a difficult time where taxes are high, Sam Adams hates tea, and Paul Revere keeps forgetting his horse. The colonies don’t even like each other that much, and John Hancock is spending way too much time practicing his signature. From the French and Indian War to the election of George Washington as the first president, our 4th grade students sing their way through the most exciting period in our nation’s formation.

Congratulations on this exciting performance! Job well done!👍👏😃🇺🇸🇺🇸

TEDxTalks offer students a range of benefits. They provide exposure to diverse ideas and perspectives, expanding students' knowledge and understanding of various topics. They inspire and motivate students by showcasing the accomplishments and experiences of speakers, often including young people like themselves. Additionally, TEDxTalks can stimulate critical thinking and creativity, encouraging students to question assumptions and think outside the box. Lastly, they can serve as valuable learning tools, supplementing formal education with real-world insights and examples. Amazing experience! We are very proud of our students. They did a wonderful job🤩

The students of TEDxHCCS Live 2024, "The Brave and the Brilliant" screened talks from the TED2024 conference and then led fantastic and provocative discussions around AI Influencers, Synthetic Memories, Good News, and more. They demonstrated tremendous mastery of rhetorical skills, critical listening, and Socratic inquiry. CONGRATULATIONS!

HCCS-Park Slope had an awesome visit with professional comic artist Lula Lukas! Ms. Lukas met with each 5th grade and shared her artistic process, advice for careers in the arts (including film, graphic design, and animation), and did a drawing activity with the students. She also shared resources to help students develop their own comic stories---perfect for the comic unit we are doing in Art! Thank you Ms. Lukas✨

TEDxHCCS Youth 2024 event: "The Brave and the Brilliant"

Congratulations to this years 2024 TEDxHCCS Youth facilitators👏

A group of 8th graders facilitated a never-before-seen talks from the exclusive TED 2024 Conference and conducted a paideia (learning in the style of Socratic inquiry) around the future of AI. Our students have been studying Persuasive Speaking, especially in light of Aristotle's "Three Appeals" (λόγος, ήθος, και πάθος), by which he meant "facts and reason", "credibility and trustworthiness", and "emotional impact". They worked very hard and did an incredible job! Way to go students🤩

The TED Conference is an exclusive annual event in Vancouver, BC, where dozens of leaders who have shaped our world convene to discuss their journeys and their visions for the future. This year, we screened four talks from that conversation which have not yet been seen by the rest of the world.

The subjects related to Artificial Intelligence, Synthetic People, Extreme Experiences, and a little sprinkle of humor. Our students did not see the discussions before the event, so the conversations they lead were fresh and improvised based on the groundbreaking presentations they witnessed. Some audience participation was welcome and it was a great discussion!

This year’s presenters were:
RUMMAN CHOWDHURY, AI Commentator at Humane Intelligence
SARA GIUSTO, Producer of Virtual Influencers (Forbes \\JAPAN "30 UNDER 30" 2023)
JIMMY CHIN, Creator of Cinema depicting extreme experiences
REGGIE WATTS, Entertainer

A Charter School Symposium took place in Athens, Greece earlier this month. Our Director of Community and Parent Engagement, Dena Capetanakis represented HCCS. Ms. Dena met with The Greek Parliament including the Ministry of Education, Culture, Health, Tourism, Foreign Affairs, Standing Committee of Greekism of the Diaspora, Social Welfare and Family. The mission of the symposium was to showcase the great work and each unique charter school’s mission of all the Hellenic Charter Schools in the United States. Excellent conversations took place. We will continue the great partnership we have with Greece and continue strong with our mission. 👏🇬🇷

Hellenic Classical Charter Schools-Park Slope presents “Orestes”✨

In Euripides "Orestes," staged in 408 BCE, the aftermath of Orestes' matricide unfolds within a world governed by judicial systems. Orestes, accompanied by his sister Electra and his loyal friend Pylades, faces condemnation for his actions from the authorities of Argos. Their uncle, Menelaus, fails to offer support, leaving them to devise a desperate scheme: to target Menelaus' wife, Helen, and abduct her innocent daughter as leverage for their own salvation.

Don’t miss it!
