Dr. Juan David Ramírez González is an accomplished microbiologist, scientist and educator with an impressive academic background. After completing his PhD, Dr. Ramírez González joined the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the NIH as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Following his postdoctoral fellowship, he began his academic and research career as professor at the Universidad del Rosario in Colombia. There, he established the Research Center for Microbiology and Biotechnology, a reference center of tropical diseases diagnostics of the Panamerican Health Organization.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit Colombia, Dr. Ramírez González swiftly implemented molecular testing and genomic surveillance methods and contributed to the country's preventive measures. His expertise and dedication led to his appointment as an associate professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2021. At Mount Sinai, he currently holds the position of Associate Professor and Assistant Director of the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory. In this role, he oversees COVID-19 and Respiratory Virus Panel testing, and have developed new tests for the Mount Sinai Health System (Monkeypox, Chagas disease, Leishmaniasis, Acanthamoeba, Human Papillomavirus, malaria and Candida auris).

Dr. Ramírez González has an impressive publication record, with approximately 50 articles published since joining Mount Sinai and a total of 223 internationally recognized peer-reviewed articles throughout his career. He has received numerous grants, mentored students, delivered lectures at prestigious international conferences, and served as an editor and judge for prominent scientific journals. His contributions to the field of microbiology and his impact in academia have earned him widespread recognition, including attention from the media.

In addition to the previous efforts from The Mount Sinai Hospital and Kyabirwa Surgical Center, Daphne Semet reached out to her contacts and Mr. Dan Laferty of Objective Imaging, answered the call by donating a low volume scanner to the hospital. This helps Dr. Zeizafoun with providing diagnosis from his laptop at any time, halving the turnaround time thus, saving more patients in time!
