2/2: Highlights from NYU SPS Career Pathways Bridge Global Field Intensive to Jamaica: Students spent the morning at the Savanna-La-Mar Inclusive Infant Academy, established by the Rockhouse Foundation, reading and engaging with students of all abilities. Muhsin shared his thoughts about the time spent at the school: “I was profoundly touched by the values of love, kindness, and high expectations. These values define the character of the Jamaican people and shape the country's approach to tourism and community development.” In the afternoon, we traveled to Negril to visit the Rockhouse Hotel, where students learned from the incredibly talented staff about the hotel's exceptional sustainability practices. Reflecting further, Muhsin said, “I took away a deeper understanding of how embracing love, extending kindness, and setting high expectations can inspire and transform communities.”Thank you, Rockhouse, for an unforgettable experience!

1/2: From Montego Bay to Kingston, five Career Pathways Bridge Students embarked on a 10-day journey across Jamaica, diving deep into its rich culture, dynamic hospitality and tourism industry. As part of Dr.
Donna Kelly’s Global Field Intensive course on Jamaica’s tourism industry, students researched regenerative tourism and its impacts on local communities. Isiah Rosario shared a key takeaway from this experience:
“Tourism in Jamaica has a mixed impact. It creates many opportunities for local residents, but large hotels and big gift shops often hurt smaller local businesses, making it difficult for residents to compete and thrive as entrepreneurs.”
Join us on Tuesday, July 16, 2 - 4 PM, for the Project Showcase to learn more about their experience in Jamaica and the research they’ve conducted. RSVP at the link in bio!

"I am studying Social Sciences with a concentration in Psychology at NYU SPS, so I can continue to apply my passions and interests to my academic pursuits and hopefully launch successful programs to serve underserved African communities and other regions in the US and around the world." Soji Britto, who graduated yesterday and was the NYU School of Professional Studies Banner Bearer for the 2024 Undergraduate Convocation.

"Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, I was immersed in an environment where service to others was not just valued but actively practiced. My passion for community service and social impact is deeply rooted in my upbringing, where I witnessed my parents dedicate themselves to the welfare of those around them. My father, a medical doctor, provided essential healthcare services, often free of charge, to underrepresented communities. He
treated illnesses and educated people on preventive measures and basic healthcare practices. At the same time, my mother often offered her services during the holidays to aid underprivileged local communities in the city.

From a young age, these experiences inspired me to get involved in volunteer work, starting in soup kitchens in my second hometown of Banning, California, and later expanding to international efforts, such as traveling to South Africa with the New York University Alternative Breaks program to collaborate with Global Vision Initiative and other local NGOs to meet the needs of underrepresented local communities. Each initiative I have been involved in has helped solidify my understanding of the profound impact of community service and continues to fuel my desire to make a tangible difference in any way I can."

Congratulations to Soji and to all our graduates! Learn more about our Bachelor's in Social Sciences: https://www.sps.nyu.edu/homepage/academics/bachelors-degrees/ba-in-social-sciences.html

This April, students from DAUS professor Clif Hubby's course on Classical and Medieval World enjoyed a lively interactive tour of the Cloisters Museum in Fort Tryon Park.

The Cloisters are one of New York's most unique museums made up of a series of monastic buildings from medieval Europe along with a world class collection of art and objects. Students viewed the cloister and garden of Cuxa, a Gothic chapel with stained glass windows, and a tomb effigy of a crusading knight.
