Hey everyone, 👋
I wanted to bring up a crucial topic that often gets overlooked - men's health. Specifically, I wanted to focus on the importance of getting a PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test done. 👨⚕️
The PSA test is a blood test used primarily to screen for prostate cancer. The test measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen in your blood - an increase in PSA levels may indicate prostate cancer or a noncancerous condition such as prostatitis or an enlarged prostate. 🏥
But the question is, when should a man get his PSA checked? Well, the American Cancer Society recommends that men make an informed decision with their doctor about whether to be tested for prostate cancer, beginning at age 50. Men with one or more risk factors (FAMILY HISTORY OR AFRICAN-AMERICAN) for prostate cancer should consult with their doctor about whether to start routine screening earlier sometimes starting at 40.
Remember, early detection can make a huge difference in treatment and prognosis. So, to all the men in our lives, please take care of your health and get your PSA checked when it's time. And to everyone else, let's encourage our fathers, husbands, brothers, and friends to take this important step.
Stay healthy and take care of each other! 🙏
If you or a loved needs to be checked, contact your primary care or one of our 9 board certified urologists to learn more.

Hello everyone! 🙋♀️
I wanted to take a moment to talk about something many of us might be facing but are often too embarrassed to discuss - Overactive Bladder (OAB). It's more common than you might think and, importantly, it's something that can be managed effectively.
So, what are the treatment options for an overactive bladder? 🤔
Firstly, lifestyle modifications can make a huge difference. These might include regular pelvic floor exercises, bladder training, and adjusting your fluid intake. 🏋️♀️🍵
Secondly, medication can be prescribed by a healthcare professional to help control symptoms. There's a variety of options out there, so it's about finding what works best for you. 💊
Lastly, for those who might not respond to the first two options, there are more advanced treatments such as Botox, nerve stimulation, or even surgery.
Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all approach to managing OAB. It's all about finding what works best for you and your body. Don't be afraid to speak openly about it with your healthcare provider.
Feel free to share this post to spread awareness. Let's break the silence and stigma around OAB. After all, a problem shared is a problem halved.

📌 Hey everyone! I wanted to take a moment to talk about something that often goes unaddressed due to social stigma and embarrassment - Erectile Dysfunction (ED). This is a common condition that affects many men, and it's important to remember that it's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, there are several treatment options available for ED, making it highly manageable. 🌟
👉🏼 Lifestyle changes: Healthy habits like regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate sleep, and quitting smoking can significantly improve ED.
🔬 Medication: There are several FDA-approved medications on the market that are designed to help with ED. These include Sildenafil (Vi**ra), Tadalafil (Cialis), and Vardenafil (Levitra).
💉 Injections or suppositories: For those who can't take oral medication, there are options like Alprostadil, which can be injected directly into the p***s or inserted as a suppository.
👩⚕️ Surgery: In cases where other treatments aren't effective, surgical procedures, such as pe**le implants, can be an option.
🧘🏽♂️ Psychological counseling: Since ED can sometimes be caused by stress, anxiety or depression, counseling or therapy can be beneficial.
Remember, if you're experiencing ED, the first step is always to speak with a healthcare professional. They can help guide you towards the best treatment option for your situation.
Don't let the stigma surrounding ED prevent you from seeking the help you need. Together, we can break down these barriers and promote a healthier, happier life for everyone. 💪🏼

Steer Clear of Kidney Stones: A Guide to Prevention
Hello everyone,
Kidney stones can be an extremely painful experience. The good news is that there are several strategies you can adopt to reduce your risk of developing these troublesome little formations. Here's a guide to help you steer clear of kidney stones.
1. Stay Hydrated
One of the most effective ways to prevent kidney stones is by drinking plenty of fluids. Water dilutes the substances in urine that lead to stones. Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day. If you sweat a lot due to exercise or hot weather, you may require more. Clear or light-colored urine is a good sign that you're well-hydrated.
2. Limit Sodium Intake
A diet high in sodium can trigger kidney stones by increasing the amount of calcium your kidneys must filter, thus raising your risk of stones. Keep your daily sodium intake under 2,300 milligrams. Beware of processed foods, which often have high sodium content.
3. Moderate Your Protein Consumption
While protein is an essential part of any diet, excessive animal protein (like red meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood) can raise the level of uric acid, leading to kidney stones. Balance your diet with a variety of foods and consider plant-based sources of protein like legumes and tofu.
4. Get Enough Calcium
Oddly enough, getting enough calcium in your diet can help prevent kidney stones. It may seem counterintuitive, but a diet low in calcium can cause your oxalate levels to rise and trigger kidney stones. So, include calcium-rich foods in your diet like milk, cheese, and yogurt. If you're considering calcium supplements, discuss it with your doctor first.
5. Limit Oxalate-Rich Foods
Oxalate is a natural compound found in foods that can crystallize in your urine, leading to kidney stones. Foods high in oxalate include spinach, rhubarb, nuts, wheat bran, and chocolate. If you've been diagnosed with oxalate stones, limiting these foods may be beneficial.
Remember, everyone's body is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. Always consult with a healthcare professional for advice tailored to your specific circumstances.
Stay healthy and let's keep those kidney stones at bay!

Pro Tip: sit towards the back
Riding a roller coaster could help you pass a kidney stone.
After multiple people reported they had passed a kidney stone while riding Walt Disney World's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride, a research team from Michigan State University decided to investigate the phenomena in 2016. They conducted tests with a model kidney and found that there was a 64 percent kidney stone pass rate for those seated in the rear of the Thunder Mountain ride. That number was just 16 percent for those seated in the front.

Testosterone and the Heart: For the last 10 years a controversy existed on whether testosterone replacement increases the risk for heart attack and stroke. The debate was sparked when a large retrospective review done at the VA showed increased risk of Heart attack, stroke and death resulting from men being prescribed testosterone replacement (TRT). These findings also resulted in a FDA black box warning.
It has long been established that Low T is associated with heart disease and the literature is mixed with studies showing T replacement could help, hurt or make no difference. The biggest critique of the VA study was if you looked what actually happened to the patients men treated with TRT they had lower risk of adverse events, but when an algorithm was applied it showed increase risk of adverse events.
Well, now we have the most definitive study to date using a prospective randomized control trial, which is higher level of evidence than retrospective review. The TRAVERSE trial published in NEJM showed no difference in risk of heart attack, stroke and death associated with testosterone replacement with topical gels.
Men at risk should have baseline cardiac evaluation, but past studies may have provoked unnecessary fear in men who are suffering from low T.
No increased heart risks with testosterone replacement therapy, study finds Men treated for "low T" aren't more likely than others to have a heart attack or stroke. Still, experts urge caution.

Cancer mortality continues to decline, in large part due to effective screening. PSA screening has proven to save lives. Men who are African-American or have family history of prostate cancer should start screening at age 40. Average risk men (everyone else) should start screening 50-55 years old. Prostate cancer screening usually consists of a PSA lab test and re**al exam.
