We're excited to announce the newest site-responsive installation in our ongoing Interpretation Board exhibition. "Boundaries" by Eileen Wold is a continuation of the artist's series by the same nameโa body of work that explores the concept of physical (natural or manmade) and conceptual (social and political) boundaries. The small flags used in Eileen's installation are traditionally used to mark where land will be excavated, divided or, in some other way, manipulated. Symbolic of surrender, the white flags also speak to a willingness to accept an undesirable fate as we come to terms with the realities of a shifting climate and its impacts on the Earth.
Read more about Eileen and her work at theresidencyproject.org/pas and visit the installation in person* at 200 E. Washington Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91103.
*This is an outdoor public art exhibitionโa perfect social-distancing activity. No need to make an appointment. Just stop on by the park. (Plenty of free street parking along Washington Blvd.)

About the Artists-in-Residence
The Camoufleurs is a collaboration between an artist (Lauren Ruth) and a scholar (Jason Clower) that seeks to reclaim the military science of camouflage as an art. In nature, camouflage disrupts a rival animalโs accustomed patterns of perception. As artists, they use the same
principles of natural camouflage to thwart quotidian, stale patterns of perception and create mindfulnessโnoticing the novel within the habitual. Under their brushes, camouflage becomes a tool and practice of speculation and meditation.
The Camouflage Yijing
The Yijing (formerly โI Chingโ) or Book of Change is a classical Chinese system of oracular symbolism, roughly comparable to Western esotericism and Kabbalah. Like most of the Chinese tradition, the Yijing presumes that our cosmos is always changing, a kaleidoscopic riot of chaotic complexity that almost exceeds intelligibility, unless we have studied all the minute patterns of change. The Yijing offers a textbook for learning the phases of those subtle patterns of change, in hopes that we can manipulate them (or at least survive them).
At The Residency Project @ 880, the Camofleurs are formalizing and playing with protocols for โtranslatingโ these patterns of change systematically into camouflage-like patterns of color.
Welcome artist-in-residence Constance Y. White!
Artist Statement:
My day-to-day is focused on research and creating; managing projects and arts facilitation for small groups and organizations throughout the US. Recently I have led deep thinking and community conversations around food desserts in Dallas and also topics concerning social and emotional values and body-positive imaging for women. All of this work engages participants through hands-on art making by creating individual and group artwork that relates directly to the specific issue or concern.
My work is guided by this principle: the aesthetic of a project must aspire to have the highest regard and reflection of each unique person, place, community and neighborhood; and must demonstrate integrity with character as exemplified by project outcomes. I believe my work should be authentic reflections of each group and community and that we all deserve to create projects with a soul and purpose that express our unique stories.
