Did you know that more pets get lost on the 4th of July than any other day of the year? Luckily, there are steps you can take to keep your pet safe on the 4th, and every other day of the year.
⭐️ Be sure your pet’s ID tag is visible and up-to-date
⭐️ Get your pet microchipped and check that your contact info is correct and up-to-date
⭐️ Be sure that your yards are secure - check for holes, open gates, loose fences, etc.
⭐️ Keep your pets safe at home and away from gatherings with fireworks. Not only are many pets sensitive to loud sounds and prone to running, but fireworks also contain chemicals that are dangerous when ingested
⭐️ Keep your pets indoors and play gentle music to cover up the sounds of fireworks. If needed, discuss your options for anti-anxiety medications or CBD with your pet’s veterinarian
⭐️ Consider staying home with your pet to help them feel safe and secure

K9 Youth Alliance is on a mission to enrich the lives of kids and shelter dogs.
Our training programs focus on the social-emotional growth of our student handlers and their shelter dog partners. Our students learn to train dogs, teaching them skills that will help them get adopted and live the happy lives they deserve while gaining essential skills themselves, such as confidence, patience, empathy, and responsibility.

Bringing home a new dog can be so exciting! It’s understandable to want to show them and their cuteness off to everyone you know, but it’s important to remember that your pup has gone through a lot before they found their way to you. Setting realistic expectations and giving them time to decompress is key!
Here are nine things to keep in mind to help your new family member feel safe and secure in their new home:
⭐️ You’re a stranger to your dog
⭐️ Keep their world small
⭐️ Don’t force leash walks
⭐️ Don’t trust a collar or your fenced in yard
⭐️ Consider a GPS tracker
⭐️ Be understanding to their sensitivities, even if they don’t make sense to you
⭐️ Don’t punish the growl
⭐️ Supervise children
⭐️ Limit interactions with other resident animals
It may take several weeks or months, but as your new pup settles into their new home and routine, you will begin to see their unique personality bloom, and the time and patience will all be worth it.
Dog Decompression New Rescue So you’ve brought home a new rescue dog (or are preparing to do so)! Congratulations on your new addition! I bet you’re excited to show off your new bundle of joy to everyone! And that’s understandable! But first, let’s look at some important things to help keep your new dog safe, emotion....
