Yesterday, the Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship (ACA) gathered at PA CareerLink Pittsburgh Downtown for a day of insightful discussions and site tours aimed at expanding apprenticeship opportunities.

Key speakers included Ed Gainey, City of Pittsburgh Mayor, and José Javier Rodríguez, Assistant Secretary of the Employment and Training Administration. Susie Puskar, our COO, moderated a panel featuring Felicity Williams, Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of Mayor Ed Gainey; Kerry McQuone, Chief Marketing Officer, GrayMatter; Rachel Mauer, German American Chamber of Commerce Pittsburgh Chapter; Tara Loew, Director of the Apprenticeship and Training Office, Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, and Robert Cherry, CEO of Partner4Work and ACA Chairperson.

The ACA continues to drive forward its mission of creating equitable career pathways through apprenticeships, helping to build a brighter future for the workforce.

We are honored to play a key role in the growth of Clairton students, offering them the opportunity to mentor and support younger students as they develop valuable skills.

Our Partners in Learning program, developed in partnership with Eden Hall Foundation, Auberle, Partner4Work, and the Clairton City School District, empowered Clairton 11th and 12th graders to work as paid tutors for 1st graders in the district, all while encouraging those HS students to explore teaching as a career.

Students worked alongside classroom teachers to assist students with classroom activities, lead small group instruction, provide homework help, and support students who are on track to keep moving forward, while teachers spent time focusing on students who needed targeted assistance with specific knowledge and skills. Learning Partners were paid for their work through The Employment Institute.

We are incredibly grateful for the thoughtful, student-centered partnership of the Eden Hall Foundation, Auberle, Partner4Work, and CCSD, and we are so excited to see the program expand to 1st and 2nd grade this school year!
