OCOM ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT:
Dr. Kat Brady, LAc.
Dr. .v.brady , LAc. has been very busy after graduating from OCOM’s dual DACM/MACM doctoral level program in August 2023. In November they began working at the public health clinic in their chronic pain management and addiction recovery programs, which had been their dream since taking Quest’s executive director David Eisen’s Community Health class at OCOM during their second year.
They also began a private practice in Southeast Portland through where they see patients on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Kat thrives at simultaneously treating the mind, body, and spirit of each patient they see. Kat practices a mixed style of acupuncture drawing upon Applied Channel Theory, TCM, and Japanese meridian therapy styles.
Kat also teaches Qigong regularly online and in-person around Portland. Teaching from the Ling Gui tradition, as taught by , they bring their Qigong classes to life with Chinese medical and Daoist wisdom. Recently, they have also taught the 3-day workshop “TCM for Reiki Practitioners” that combined lectures with Qigong practice to teach the rich theory of Chinese medicine in a felt and embodied way.
Kat hosts Reiki Sound Baths throughout the Portland area with their wife and Reiki Master , and, in May, they hosted their first Acupuncture Sound Bath.
Kat has offered acupuncture services at various events around Portland including at . This summer they will be offering acupuncture services at music festivals such as in June and at in September where they will also be teaching Qigong.
In what spare time they have, Kat plays in the band with their wife, enjoys ecstatic dance, and cares for their large herbal garden.

OCOM Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Rebecca (Bex) Groebner, DAc, LAc
Dr. Groebner earned her BS in Physics from PSU (2005), Masters in Acupuncture from NUNM (2011) and Doctoral in Acupuncture from PCHS (2021).
She owns Acupuncture Clinic in NE Portland, which will be celebrating its 12 year anniversary in August and is currently housed in an incredible yurt in her back yard. Ten percent of profits from the area donated towards Indigenous-led projects to restore salmon habitat in the Pacific NW.
Since 2015, she has been volunteering with the and is currently the Volunteer Coordinator for the organization. She is a a volunteer member of the State of Oregon’s Emergency Reserve Pool of Healthcare Volunteers (SERV-OR), a past Board member of the OAA and currently serves on the Student Leadership Committee of the ASA, working to create tools for and empower acupuncture students to pursue professional leadership opportunities. From 2015-2022, she taught Classical Chinese Medical Ethics and the Biomedicine Series to acupuncture and naturopathic students at NUNM.
Dr. Groebner’s focus has been on providing trauma-informed care, particularly around the health of women. In her work with ARP, she has provided care and supervised clinicians in providing primary care in rural environments with limited resources. Her clinical experience encompasses infectious medicine, stroke rehabilitation, orthopedic care and chronic disease care (COPD, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer).
She happily teaches the following courses at OCOM: Western Pathology I-III, Living Anatomy I-III, Western Clinical Pediatrics, Diet and Nutrition and Chinese Dietetics.
She loves being part of the OCOM community because the faculty are amazing and some of them are not just friends and colleagues, but her own teachers, such as long-time Taiji Instructor, Sifu PikShan Ko. The students impress her every day with their hard work and dedication, the excellent questions they bring to class and their creative problem solving. She also loves their great baking skills and the occasional cookie 🍪 delivered to the podium before class begins.
Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 OCOM is committed to being a respectful, safe, supportive, and welcoming organization and community for all students, faculty, staff, and patients.

The OCOM Clinic is open through the end of August! We offer affordable acupuncture, bodywork, and herbal consultation appointments.
What’s an acupuncture appointment like?
Our team will ask you about your health history and concerns, consult with their clinical supervisor about treatment, the needles will be inserted, and then you’ll be allowed to rest with the needles in for a little while before they’re removed. Sometimes patients even fall asleep! You’ll be given a call button in case anything doesn’t feel right.
Contact our Patient Services Team 503-445-0951 to schedule your appointment!
