Rising Senior Emma Conlin, along with fellow Villanova Nursing students Angie Prince, Lauren Casimiro and Catherine Skinner, completed the Clinical Assistants Nurse Externship Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC this summer.
Emma had this to say about her experience. โThis summer, I was a part of the Clinical Assistants Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC! I worked as a Nurse Extern on M4, which treats Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedic Oncology patients. As a nurse Extern, I had the opportunity to work under a nurse preceptor to develop my clinical skills while also being able to complete tasks independently as a patient care technician. My Villanova Nursing education coupled with my experience this summer have made me feel more confident in my skills and knowledge as I head into my senior year and beyond!โ
Thank you for sharing Emma.
Villanova Nursing Assistant Professor, Christina Whitehouse, PhD, AGPCNP-BC, CDCES, FADCES, recently represented FCN at the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA.

Congratulations to Nick Jubilee and Abby Jansen on finishing their externship at CHOP. They wanted to share their experience with the Villanova Nursing Community and talk about what theyโve been up to this summer!
Abby: "This summer I had the opportunity to be a nurse extern in the N/IICU and the Hematology/Nephrology floor at CHOP. Throughout these 10 weeks, I was able to strengthen the foundation of my nursing skills through hands on experience with a wide range of patients. This summer allowed me to grow professionally and become more qualified as a Student Nurse. I look forward to continuing in Pediatrics and making a difference in the lives of all my patients."
Nick: โThis summer I was a Flynn Fellow on the Bone Marrow Transplant and General Oncology Units. During the 10 weeks, I had the opportunity to hone in on the nursing skills Iโve learned throughout my nursing school journey and expand on my clinical skills and competency. I also had the opportunity to conduct an EBP project about interventions that impact sleep satisfaction. This summer was an amazing opportunity, and I cannot wait to continue pursuing a career in pediatrics!โ
Sounds like a great summer experience.

Ten nurses from the Childrenโs Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) completed an exciting on-campus Simulation Intensive July 16-17. The offering is part of the new Clinical Faculty track in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program.
With generous funding from the Bedford Falls Foundation and the Conway family, as well as support from CHOP, the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing (FCN) partnered with CHOP to develop a two-year, 33-credit program, which will offer courses in 8-week blocks focused on developing knowledge and competence. This innovative program of study enables Villanova Nurse Educators to meet the tremendous need for them in our community. Offered extensively online, the curriculum culminates in two engaging experiences that enable students to apply their new knowledge in real practice and education settings. The Simulation Intensive and Clinical Faculty Practicum prepares students to support new nursesโ transition to practice and experienced nursesโ ongoing development. The program leverages Villanovaโs expertise in nursing education and its strong clinical partnerships to address the national shortage of clinical nurse faculty.
