FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sierra Jobs First Opens Public Review Period for Strategic Plan
Aug. 5 Through Aug. 9, 2024

July 24, 2024 - (TRUCKEE, Calif.) Sierra Jobs First, a regional collaborative representing the voice of seven counties in the eastern Sierra during the statewide California Jobs First planning process, will release a draft of the Strategic Plan for public review and feedback Aug. 5. This Strategic Plan will be delivered to the governor’s office Aug. 29 and will help determine what projects are funded by this state initiative. The draft will be available for public comment through Aug. 9 at sierrajobsfirst.org/strategic-plan.

The Strategic Plan consists of comprehensive regional research used to inform the proposed strategies and tactics and is the product of countless hours of thoughtful conversation with community members, industry leaders, representatives from disinvested populations and stakeholders across Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Inyo, Mariposa, Mono and Tuolumne counties. The strategies and tactics included in the plan were honed through more than 450 public comments collected during a similar public comment period in June and July that resulted in valuable feedback that was woven in to create a strategic plan that is truly representative of the Sierra region and its most vital concerns, including Housing and Placemaking, Workforce Development, Social and Physical Infrastructure, Clean Energy, Sustainable Recreation and Tourism, Agriculture and Working Lands, and more.

“California Jobs First is a community-led initiative, and the Sierra Jobs First Collaborative is committed to accurately representing all the voices in our region. The first public review period on the proposed strategies was a vital step, and we look forward to similar essential feedback on the full Strategic Plan draft as we move closer to our Aug. 29 deadline for delivering the plan to Sacramento,” said Erika Harvey, program director, Sierra Jobs First. “We are grateful in advance for the public feedback that will help us create a more equitable and prosperous future for our region.”

Following the close of the public review period on Aug. 9, all feedback will be reviewed and incorporated as appropriate into the final Strategic Plan, which will be voted on by the Sierra Jobs First Governing Council Aug. 23 and delivered to Sacramento Aug. 29.

To receive updates on this essential milestone, or to get involved in Sierra Jobs First, sign up for the newsletter at https://sierrajobsfirst.org/get-involved/

Clean California Monument and Wayfinding Project
Construction beginning on 7/8/24

Calaveras County, in partnership with Caltrans and the City of Angels Camp, intends to begin construction on the Clean California Gateway Monument and Wayfinding Project on July 8, 2024. The Project is estimated to be conducted over 70 working days.

This Project is funded entirely by the State of California through the Clean California Program. In 2022 and 2023, Department of Public Works and Caltrans staff held a series of workshops, listening sessions, and solicited on-line input to develop the monuments and the icons that represent the distinct communities within our county.

Gateway Monuments will be installed on State Highways in Angels Camp (SR4, SR49), and throughout the county in Arnold (SR4), Copperopolis (SR4), Mokelumne Hill (SR49), San Andreas (SR49) and Valley Springs (SR12, SR26). Wayfinding signs will be installed in Angels Camp, Murphys and San Andreas.

The goal of this Project is to provide gateway markers and wayfinding signs that are distinct to each community yet provide some uniformity that ties the community together as Calaveras County. These wayfinding signs and gateway markers will further direct travelers to destinations off the state highway system.

All work is expected to take place out of the travel path and no lane closures are expected. We remind the motoring public to slow for the cone zone when workers are present.

If you have any questions or need to report urgent road related issues, please call Calaveras County Public Works Department at (209) 754-6401, during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm).

After regular business hours please contact the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office at (209) 754-6500 (non-emergency phone number).

TUOLUMNE COUNTY
All Evacuation Warnings and Evacuation Orders have been lifted.
Public safety crews will have a strong presence in the repopulated and evacuated areas for the next several days to ensure the protection of our residents and their property.

We will continue to monitor the active fire areas, as well as those areas remaining closed due to critical infrastructure concerns or safety hazards. Be aware there may be traffic flow interruptions due to fire crews and utility workers still operating in the area and PG&E is working diligently to restore power to the affected areas.
Coming home after a wildfire can be difficult. When a wildfire burns through an evacuated area, we take many things into consideration before allowing residents to return. Trees, brush, power lines and utility poles may have become weakened by the fire, and they need to be cleared. Crews continue to check for gas leaks, as well as any burning hazardous material that may need attention prior to allowing residents to return.
