Flu season is upon us so today we're sharing this photo from the field! Rose sage (Salvia pachyphylla) is a perennial shrub that is native to California. It has a pleasant minty scent, and blooms from around July to September. This beautiful plant, which is also known as "grandmother sage" or "blue sage, is used by indigenous communities in the treatment of flu symptoms. What a relief!

We currently have nine varieties of fig trees in the Nursery. We follow varieties Black Mission, Brown Turkey, Desert King, Flanders, Osborne Prolific, Panache (Tiger), Peter's Honey, Violette de Bordeaux, and White Genoa figs in stock all available in tree pots.

These plants are available for in-person shopping, hours 10am-6pm, 7 days a week.

Fig trees are a great addition to the garden. They are self-fruitful, not needing another fig plant to produce fruit. Fig trees can be grown in a wide range of soils and climates, hardy to 15 degrees F. These trees prefer to be grown in full-sun and in well draining soil with a regular watering schedule but can be grown in a pot or in the ground. Fig trees are deciduous, meaning they go dormant in the Fall, so don’t be alarmed when they lose their leaves as it gets colder. Varieties can range in color, shape, flavor and size. The fruit only ripens on the tree, ensure you know which variety you planted because at harvest fruits can range in color from black, green, brown, violet, yellow, or purple.

Happy November Friends...
Looking ahead...If any of you purchased straw bales for Halloween or the Fall season that you'll need to get rid of after the holiday's, please consider donating them to our community garden at Highland's Giving Garden. We would love to put them to good use repairing our compost bins or using them in and around the garden wherever possible. This will also help with keeping the bales out of our local landfill. Recycle, Reuse, Repurpose.

Address where they can be dropped off:
3606 Atlantic Avenue
Highland, CA 92346

Thank you all in advance for helping to keep our garden maintained with your straw bale donation. We really appreciate it.
