Alberto Alvarado Named as District 5 Toastmasters Toastmaster of the Year

District 5 is now reaching out to local businesses & organizations to offer affordable communications and leadership training programs

San Diego, CA – Sept 26, 2024

Alberto Alvarado has been honored with the prestigious Toastmaster of the Year award. This recognition reflects Alberto's exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment to personal and club growth, and dedication to the Toastmasters community.

According to Alex Shadpour, District Director, “Alberto demonstrated outstanding leadership when he stepped in as Western Division Director, focused on ensuring that the clubs in his division received the support they needed. In addition, Alberto actively collaborated with other division and area directors, playing a key role in the success of multiple contests.

“His dedication extended beyond his division, as he supported other divisions' contests and consistently participated in membership growth initiatives at the district level. Notably, he introduced Club Speaker Showcases district-wide and helped reinstate a club late in the Toastmasters year.

“Alberto's actions consistently demonstrated his commitment to the success of the district and its members. We are immensely grateful for his contributions and look forward to his continued leadership.”

Toastmasters – now celebrating 100 years of proven success – is the world’s most effective solution for communication, leadership and public speaking training,” explains Alberto. “And, on top of that, Toastmasters is FUN!”

Alberto adds, “How much money is your organization spending to train your staff and teams to be better communicators and leaders? Thousands of dollars? Hundreds of thousands? Toastmasters membership is only about $120 per year!”

This is not your grandpa’s Toastmasters! We don’t do Toasts!

Today’s Toastmasters is all about improving communication, leadership, and business skills. Yes, we still provide training for public speaking, but we do so much more now. We are now digital, we are online – we are training the leaders of tomorrow. Today’s Toastmasters are multi-cultural, multilingual – of all ages and backgrounds. Toastmasters is now composed about 52% women!

Come check out Toastmasters. For more info about how Toastmasters will help your organization reduce training costs and improve your staff’s communication and leadership skills, contact Alberto Alvarado [email protected].

***IMPORTANT!! PLEASE READ.***

A scammer is contacting District 5 Toastmasters members via email. The scammer uses a fake email address appearing to belong to Alex Shadpour, our District Director, as part of the scam. If you reply, they will make some urgent request for you to purchase items (usually gift cards) and ask you to provide the information from the purchase.

To protect yourself and others from falling prey to these phishing attempts and other scams, remember the following:

Verify Requests: Always confirm any request (but especially unusual requests) for personal or financial information by reaching out directly to the purported sender using their known contact details.

Be Skeptical of Urgency: Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into acting quickly. Take your time to assess the situation and ensure the request is legitimate.

Do Not Share Financial Information: Never share sensitive financial information, such as gift or credit card numbers or PINs, via email, phone calls, or text messages.

Be Wary of Secrecy: Scammers may ask you to help with an incentive gift for a fellow Toastmaster and therefore to keep it secret. This is a huge red flag.

Report Suspicious Activity: If you receive a suspicious request, promptly report it to your local authorities.

Our Story

Formed in 1937, we honor the district mission set forth by Toastmasters International—to build new clubs and support all clubs in achieving excellence.

Toastmasters International is divided into 14 Regions and 97 Districts. District 5, in Region 3, is composed of about 150 clubs with more than 3,000 members. The District territory includes San Diego County, Imperial County and Yuma Arizona.

District 5 is a volunteer-based organization. Volunteer leadership opportunities exist from club to district—all working towards achieving excellence within District 5.

The world needs leaders. Leaders head families, coach teams, run businesses and mentor others. These leaders must not only accomplish, they must communicate. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program. Every Toastmasters journey begins with a single speech. During their journey, they learn to tell their stories. They listen and answer. They plan and lead. They give feedback—and accept it. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership.
