📣 ATTN: TRICK DOG BROADSIDE MENU 📣 What exactly IS a broadside, anyway?
For centuries, broadsides were a popular print format for distributing news, announcements, advertisements, government proclamations, commentary, and so on. Early on, they were intended to be plastered on public walls (hence the reason they were typically a one-sided print) and became one of the most common forms of printed material between the 16th and 19th centuries. These initial broadsides were intended to be temporary and not really kept as pieces of art.
Fast-forward to now, after newspapers, magazines, etc. overtook as the dominant methods for people to receive printed news and information, smaller printers and publishers still create broadside prints as pieces of fine art. Our Trick Dog Broadside Menu designed and printed by and is an example of how this format lives on in a beautiful way! Go check our friends out, they know WAY more about printing design and history than we do ♥️
Come by, hold it in your hands, and ponder the question we asked ourselves throughout the development of this latest menu: Where do we go from here?

Ink swipe cards available for purchase on our website and at the bar 🎨 Pack of 5 for $30 🎨
Ink swipe cards made by The Aesthetic Union. Blank on the inside and come with envelopes! From The AU:
"These cards are all one-of-a-kind, inspired by the beauty of mixing inks every day in the shop. We call these ink swipes. While mixing inks or before putting all the ink on the press for a large run, we test out the color of the inks we make on a small card. I, for one, have always thought ink swipes as one of the most beautiful things that people who don’t print, don’t get to see. I really hope you treasure these acts of spontaneous creation as much as we do.
Because each card is totally unique, each online order is totally a surprise! Each card comes with a matching envelope.
PRINT DETAILS
· Method: Letterpress printed and ink swipes
· Material: Mohawk Keykolour 111 #
· Card size: A2
· Envelope included
· Comes wrapped in compostable bio sleeves"

"We still like to joke that Trick Dog was one of the most anticipated bar openings of 2010, but things happening as they do, we opened in January of 2013. One of the great benefits of this amount of time passing was that we got to design and re-design the bar several times over. Things that we originally thought were cool became uncool, and new things got cool.
This time also gave us the opportunity to accumulate design elements one by one from far and wide. At the time, we had the mindset of looking at everything as if it could become a light fixture. One day at 2010, in Alemany, I laid eyes on one of these for the first time - a shade cutter from the Star Shade Cutter Company. We immediately saw it.
Over the next three years, we acquired more shade cutters one by one at flea markets, with eBay alerts, and so on. In order for these fixtures to become UL listed, we had to take a great deal of steps in our repurposing of them. Any parts that move, we had to secure into place, so the handle that turns the big crank wheel and the lever with a pizza cutter-style blade, all had to be fixed. Also, as I'm sure you can imagine, we had to remove that pizza cutter-style blade. The rest was obviously pretty simple of securing a socket with wiring in the proper fashion into the piece that is intended to clamp down, permanently secured that clamp in place, and dropped a bulb down through the fixture.
I remember thinking it was dumb at the time that we needed to take the steps to secure moving parts in place because only an idiot would walk up to a light fixture on the wall of a bar that has a bulb in it and try to crank a lever that turns a wheel. But yet, now I have seen hundreds of people walk up to these lights over the last 9 years and try to crank them.
Come check them out, there are 5 downstairs and 4 upstairs. And don't try to crank them because we will laugh at you."
