CALIFORNIA'S LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR, ELENI KOUNALAKIS IN CONVERSATION WITH ADL REGIONAL DIRECTOR MARC LEVINE

Antisemitism has been on the uptick for the past few years in the US. Since October 7th, however, and the massacre of Israelis and Israel’s subsequent response, antisemitism is even more explicit. The Jewish community has struggled to respond and to know where to look for allies. California's Lieutenant Governor, Eleni Kounalakis and Regional ADL Director Marc Levine will join a community conversation about these issues of the hour, regarding the Israel war with Hamas and antisemitism in California.

"The Bay Area Interfaith Leadership Council has created three Public Service Announcements to address the rise of Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and Anti-Asian Hate. The theme, “We all Belong”, exemplifies the Leadership’s reminder to all residents of the Bay Area that the demonization of others only serves to weaken and destroy our communities. All faith traditions have one thing in common and that is to profess the perennial truth of the Golden Rule – “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” In short, “We All Belong”!" ❤️

A series of powerful earthquakes struck southern Turkey in the early morning hours of Feb. 6, 2023. These quakeshave caused the widespread destruction and collapse of buildings, with likely thousands of deaths and many thousands more injuries in Turkey and northwestern Syria. The epicenter of the quake was in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş, and tremors were felt intensely in the surrounding provinces and cities such as Kahramanmaras, Hatay, Osmaniye, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Malatya, Kilis and Adana. Embrace Relief has launched an aid campaign to meet the urgent needs of the victims of the devastating Feb. 6 earthquakes, and to help support the rebuilding efforts of the people of southern Turkey. Please help us in healing the wounds of earthquake victims.

*You can also double your support for the people of Turkey by asking your company about Employer Matching Donations. Companies of all sizes will often match donations to a charitable 501(c)(3) organization like Embrace Relief on a 1:1 (or 2:1 or even 3:1) basis, as part of their corporate social responsibility. So ask your company today about making a matching donation to Embrace Relief’s Turkey Earthquake Relief, and together we can save even more lives.

Free Home Cleanup Hotline Available Now for Households Impacted by Current Storms and Flooding in California

Call 844-965-1386 for free help from local relief agencies

From now until January 27, 2023, several relief agencies are staffing a free hotline for the public to request help cleaning up from the recent flooding. This hotline will connect survivors with reputable and vetted voluntary relief agencies that will assist in debris cleanup and mucking out, as they are able. All services are free, but service is not guaranteed due to the expected overwhelming need.

The partnership with Crisis Clean-Up helps connect survivors with local relief agencies working across the state. Crisis Clean-Up will help facilitate cleanup by various aid agencies standing by to assist those affected by the flooding.

The hotline will alert multiple relief agencies that survivors need help. All services are free and performed by vetted and reputable relief agencies and members of National VOAD. Response times will vary so we ask residents their patience while the teams receive and organize their response to help.

Important reminder: The hotline cannot assist with social services such as food, clothing, shelter, insurance, or questions about FEMA

Survivors needing assistance with home cleanup may call: 844-965-1386.

A major storm is headed to the Bay Area that will bring substantial rainfall on Wednesday and continuing Thursday, not tapering off until Thursday afternoon.

National Weather Service has issued the following advisories:

Flood Watch in effect from 4:00AM Wednesday, January 4 through 4:00PM January 5.
High Wind Watch in effect from 4:00AM Wednesday, January 4 through 10:00PM January 5.

Marin Health and Human Services will open a Severe Weather Emergency Shelter at 5 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, to 6:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5 for people experiencing homelessness. What does this mean for you?

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and blow down tree limbs.
Power outages may result from strong winds and rain.
Localized flooding could occur in low-lying areas or where storm drains or drainage systems are temporarily blocked by debris.
Slick roadways.
Rising creeks and streams. However, levels are currently forecast to remain below flood stage (local stream gauges).
What can I do to prepare?

Before the storm:

Secure outdoor objects that could be blown over by wind (e.g., patio furniture, sports equipment, trash cans, pop-up canopies)
Rake leaves and other yard debris and place in green bin (to keep out of gutters and storm drains)
Make sure your emergency kit is up to date: have a flashlight, radio, and spare batteries handy if the power goes out.
Protect homes and businesses in low-lying flood-prone areas by making sandbags.
If you are in an area that is prone to flooding, consider moving your car to higher ground before you go to sleep at night.
Sign up to receive AlertMarin emergency calls, text message or email alerts.
Visit Emergency.MarinCounty.org for additional resources for preparing for a storm.
During the storm

Avoid unnecessary travel. Strong winds and wet roads make travel risky, and possible flooding may prevent you from returning home. Staying home is the safest option until the storm passes. If it’s an emergency, allow emergency responders to come to you.
Use extra caution when driving. If you MUST leave your home, drive carefully: slow down, keep both hands-on steering wheel, turn on head lights, allow extra space between vehicles, and watch for downed tree branches, trees, and powerlines.
Stay away from downed power lines. Always assume a fallen power line is live and do not touch it with your hand or other object. Call 9-1-1 immediately to report the fallen line.
Do not walk or drive through standing water. Turn around, do not drown. If it’s an emergency, allow emergency responders to come to you.
Avoid the coast and beaches.
Mariners / Houseboats should remain in port. Strong winds and cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels.
Monitor Emergency.MarinCounty.org for the most up-to-date weather and emergency information.
Remember that Emergency.MarinCounty.org is the go-to resident resource for emergency information throughout this storm event.
