What a great week it has been at Coast Guard Station Seattle. As we continue through Summer operations we had a moment to recognize some of our members.

To begin MK3 Noah Wilson was selected as our Enlisted Person of the Quarter. MK3 is a qualified technician and an invaluable member of the Starboard Section. He can often be found in his off time mentoring our newest members and helping them achieve their goals.

Next we had the privilege to promote our Reserve Officer Brandon Iams to Lieutenant. LT Iams oversees Station Seattles Reserve component consisting of 30 members who are an integral part of our team enabling Station to exceed its mission requirements.

Lastly we welcomed aboard MK2 Currie and MK2 Window. Welcome to the Station Seattle team.

This evening STA Seattle responded to a 32’ Grand Banks with two people onboard that was flooding in the vicinity of the Spokane Street bridge in the Duwamish Waterway.

BM2 Landholm, the OOD and Coxswain quickly readied his crew and responded to the call on one of our 45’ Response Boat-Medium’s (RB-M). The boat crew (MK3 Wilson, MK3 Sauceda, SN Kerr and SN Jacques) sprang into action to dewater the vessel with the RB-M’s P-6 pump.

The crew quickly got the flooding under control and safely moored the vessel at a local marina. Great job gents!!!

Last Wednesday Station Seattle had a very busy quarters recognizing some incredibly dedicated members!

SN Wilson earned her RBM and RSB-II Boat crewmember qualification.

FA McCarver advanced to Fireman.

BM3 Restrepo advanced to Boatswain’s Mate Second Class.

We said fair well to BM2 Abel who earned a Coast Guard Letter of Commendation for his tour at Station Seattle. BM2 was an integral component to Station as a Tactical Coxswain, Boarding Team Member and Officer of the Day. He is often found mentoring our newest members at Station and helping them earn their qualifications. BM2 is heading to STA Sheboygan and we wish you the best of luck on your next assignment!

MK2 Naputi departed Station Seattle and earned a Coast Guard Achievement Medal for his tour. MK2 was a leading Boarding Officer, Tactical Boat Crewmember, RBM Engineer and Officer of the Day at Station. MK2 is an incredibly hard working and talented engineer often found spearheading any and all engineering maintenance. MK2 is heading to the CGC Kimball and we wish him Fair Winds and Following Seas at his new assignment!

Lastly we welcomed aboard MKCS Spangler, Station Seattle’s new Engineer Petty Officer, & SN Jacques!

Attention all snipes… lay to the engine room!

🔧 ⚙️ 🪛

Over the last two weeks we had two casualties to our RB-Ms exhaust manifolds, ironically both times on the starboard engines. Once we received parts in, both duty sections painted and replaced the 90 pound manifolds. MK2 Dickinson, MK2 Naputi, MK3 Wilson and MK3 Suttles led both work parties while balancing SAR responses and training with MK1 Ling pulling the strings and getting the critical parts in.

Because of the crew’s hard work we were able to transfer an RB-M to Station Port Angeles after they had a casualty to one of their RB-Ms and conduct maintenance on our last standing RB-M CG 45645… great job, snipes 👏

This morning we said goodbye to our EPO, MKCM Briggs. Master Chief earned a CG Commendation Medal for his two years of service, leadership and mentorship of the Engineering Department.

👏 👏 👏

Master Chief also received a token of our appreciation and the awesome new unit plaque, presented by BMC Forte, that he led the design of.

Beyond the awards and recognition, Master Chief made Station a great place to work and grow. Constantly supporting the personal and professional development of others through his wise counsel and powerful personal example.

Fair winds and following seas, MKCM… you will be missed here!

Another eventful quarters recognizing our shipmates but this time the certifications were presented by the CO for the day, MK3 Suttles!

MK3 won CO for the Day during the Station’s Holiday Party and finally coordinated a day with CO to take the reins. MK3 brought the laughs and thoughtfully recognized SN Blocker and FN McCarver for earning their initial boat crew quals and ME3 Frazier’s certification as a Tactical Boat Crewmember… great job by all.

👏 👏 👏

We also said goodbye to SN Miller who is headed off to U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Savannah after 2 years at Station as a Tactical Boat Crewmember and Boarding Team Member. We are looking forward to seeing you in the air on the 65’s soon, Miller. Best of luck at “A” School!

You already know it’s Two Boat, Tuesday!

🛥️ 🤝 🛥️

This afternoon, the Port Duty Section completed tow training for three of our break in boat crew members. Despite the strong winds in Elliott Bay MK3 Mejia and BM3 Morales nailed their heaving line throws thanks to the solid example/training provided by FN McCarver and BM1 Janesh. It’s always a good day to train and never a bad day spent on the water.

We’re airborne!

🛥️ or ✈️ ❔

Today we completed training with the Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound engineering staff on the Base Seattle Travelift. BM2 Abel did a great job driving 45664 in the slip and MK1 Ling had us ready for takeoff in no time. Great job guys!

👏 👏 👏

Having the 45664 out of the water also served as a solid training opportunity for some of our break-ins to see the propulsion system of the RB-M out of the water. So you could say that we “Trained” and “Maintained”, today.

Earlier today our very own Engineer Petty Officer (EPO), Senior Chief (MKCS) Briggs, advanced to Master Chief (MKCM) during a small ceremony at Pier 36. Attaining the rank of Master Chief symbolizes an individuals mastery of their respective rating, incredible technical knowledge and demonstrated leadership. Let’s just say our Master Chief has all of those skills and then some.

⭐️ ⚓️ ⭐️

Congratulations MKCM, we are proud of you and your accomplishments!

We run into all kinds of kinds on the waters of the Puget Sound. Yesterday, our crew responded to an unmanned vessel with a nautical passenger onboard. You never know what you’ll run into in Elliott Bay but this pup made our day!

Mr. Seal your Kayak🤨⁉️

U.S. Coast Guard Station Seattle sealed the deal during a patrol near Discovery Park on Wednesday morning. Mr. Seal was quite confused when the boarding officer asked to see a life jacket.

Luckily the kayak was well sealed, and no leaks were reported!
