EPA is beginning cleanup work at the JH Baxter Facility in Eugene, Oregon. The cleanup work will address the wood preserving chemicals abandoned when activities at the facility stopped in 2022. More than 500,000 gallons of hazardous chemicals and substances remain on the site. The removal of these chemicals will reduce or eliminate risks to people, nearby businesses and the environment. The Basin Environmental Improvement Project Commission invites you to the annual Bunker Hill Superfund Site Cleanup Tour on August 7. This year’s tour will highlight activities in the Bunker Hill Box, which is the 21-square-mile area near Kellogg, Idaho. The tour will also highlight economic development that is happening in the Silver Valley including ideas Bunker Hill Mine has for starting production at the mine. ENG: Today, DEQ and Lane Regional Air Protection Agency issued an advisory for eastern Douglas, Grant, northern Harney, northern Klamath, eastern Lane, northern Malheur, and eastern Wheeler counties due to smoke from fires in . The advisory is expected to last until at least Wednesday afternoon, August 7.
DEQ also expects intermittent smoke in Crook, Deschutes, Jackson, Jefferson, Josephine, and Lake counties.
Advice to protect yourself and your family from smoke include:
- Stay inside if possible.
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
- Be aware of smoke in your area and avoid places with the highest levels.
