A lot happened in Kristi's Instructor Training in Vietnam. She taught Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels along with several workshops. She was so whooped when she came back home! All in all, an amazing experience!
Yes, Pilates can be hard! But pilates can also be personalized for any one that wants to try whether they have arthritis, osteoporosis, Multiple Sclerosis or they are training for that marathon.
PILATES IS EVERYWHERE!
This means people all over the world are training to be Pilates Instructors.
Isn't it time you started your training?
Or do you still need your CEC's? We still have openings in workshops the rest of this month!
39% of adults in the US have back pain!
(this statistic cited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
What can you do as a Pilates teacher? Plenty! Pilates teachers have so many skills to support and help people with back pain. Our Optimization of the Lumbar Spine workshop takes a deep dive into the structures of the lumbar and gives teachers new skills to help their clients.
Look out for our Optimization of the Shoulder Girdle coming up in 2023!
Men do Pilates! Lots of men!
Joseph Pilates was a guy after all. 😁
It's not just for dancers and young people!
We could do an internet search to see if there are any statistics on the percentage of men doing pilates. But we can tell you anecdotally that we see men in our studio every day really benefitting from the movement and strength that is Pilates.
Your Uncle
Your Boyfriend
Your Dad
Your Grandpa.......All benefit from Pilates!
Are we a little obsessed with Scapular Alignment?
Yes, we are!!!
Did you know there are 17 muscles that attach to the scapula? They all help to move and stabilize the scapula. Good scapular alignment not only helps with good function of the shoulder joint but also helps with cervical alignment.
When you are doing a pushup you should see very little movement of the scapula on the back while the elbows are bending. This helps the shoulder joint take on the load of the upper body during a push up.
Got more questions? We have answers!
When we think about all that we have to be thankful for, we think about how we have each other and our Pilates community.
Thank you for all that you have helped us to become as a studio, as teachers, as a center for Pilates education. We are so thankful for you!

Movement is universal.
It's no wonder that Pilates is taught all over the world. It's a form of exercise that an instructor can modify to adapt to a person's needs, goals, and level of ability.
STOTT®️ Pilates Instructor Trainings are held all over the world. Kristi Quinn, Lead Instructor Trainer, just came back from a month of teaching Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels trainings along with several other workshops. It was a rewarding experience, worth the effort!
Love the Reformer!!! We see all the amazing variations y'all are doing on your equipment and it's so fun to try them out. We thought we would share on of ours. Here's Shane gettin' fancy and having fun at the same time. Who says Pilates has to be serious to get a good workout?
What do you do to recharge after you've taught Pilates all day? More pilates?? Sometimes yes, mostly no. It's hard to force yourself to think about exercising when you have helped people with their bodies all day.
Sometimes all we want to do is absolutely nothing and not think about exercising! But we know it is good for us to move, breathe, and feel our bodies. And the truth is even a few minutes of movement or exercise is better than nothing.
What are you doing for self care? Is it reading, exercise, sports, hanging with friends, or massage? Or something else? There are so many ways we can take care of ourselves and recharge. Whatever it is you like to do for self care, keep doing it! Your mental health is important!
Classes for when you can’t get out of the house or your jammies!
Kidding aside (or are we?), Shane teaches a challenging class for all levels that incorporates hand weights, resistance band, and humor. She is a STOTT Pilates®️certified instructor and instructor trainer and has been teaching Pilates for 25 years. Shane’s classes help you understand your alignment, focus on strength and functional movement, and keep you feeling good throughout your day.
Hope to see you soon!
Familiar scene across the globe!
Kristi Quinn, awesome co-owner of Bodycenter, is in Hanoi, Vietnam teaching Intensive Mat and Reformer, Barre training, and Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels! What?!? That is a lot of work in 3 weeks.
These students are working their Pilates butts off to get their STOTT Pilates®️Instructor Certification. Every student in every training whether it is in Hanoi, Toronto or Seattle has to do many hours of practice teaching, observation and in class hours. So much work but so rewarding!
What do you do with a 3 hour layover Dublin? Exercise, of course! But only if you don't that people are staring at you.
the ultimate challenge is keeping it off of the dirty airport floors! Stay on your feet people!
it's important to get some blood flow and mobilize your joints for the journey.
Here are a few things you can do in 10 minutes or less:
*Cat/cow stretch to move your spine
*Squats to mobilize the hips and knees after 8 hours on the plane
*side stretching to get your ribs moving and get some breath in there
*more ankle and knee mobilizing with some treading
*some balance, more squats
Of course you could do a lot more but you're tired so give yourself a break and keep it short.
Same problems, different continent! Kristi is teaching an Intensive Reformer instructor training in Vietnam and the truth is we all have the same posture problems no matter where you go. That is either reassuring or a bummer. But either way, these students will be helping more people with their understanding of anatomy and posture and that is reassuring!
There’s nothing quite like a juicy stretch….
Couldn’t help but show off these students in our instructor training program practicing the Spread Eagle.
Think it looks like you can’t do it? Think again!
Are you using your Gluts????? Your b***y, derriere, t**h, buns, etc....
Whatever you call them does not matter but you must
USE THEM
Use them for hiking and for climbing up the stairs.
Use them for squats and running.
Use them to help your back.
Use them to help your hip joints.
USE THOSE BUNS PEOPLE!!!
Small Biz Owners do it all!
Or most things anyway :)
This here is the Chair, putting it together wasn't too bad though Shane did spend time loosening several bolts because she put something on backwards. It always happens that way, doesn't it?
What do you have on your list of to do's today??
OMG! This is a blast from the past.....
Client walked in with this water bottle. She still uses it!
We had these made for our clients over 15 years ago!!
Can't get enough of Reformer variations!! We love scrolling through social media and seeing so many cool and inventive exercises taught by instructors with really different backgrounds. Helps inspire us!
here's one of our fun exercises for ya!
COVID was really hard for our industry but many studios like us turned to teaching online classes and workshops. Strange to say but that's been a gift of the pandemic. We can teach instructor training workshops to people for all over, nationally and internationally! That kind of access has been great for our students who can't necessarily travel for their classes.
Here Shane is greeting her Thursday morning mat class.....
Who's that in the chair? A day in the life of a student in training.......
Students in the instructor training program need to observe for many hours for each course. They are watching to see how an instructor cues breathing and anatomy, how they modify for a client, and how the teacher communicates movement cues and helps the client with awareness. There is a lot to learn!!
Watching teachers with clients gives the student a real example of what it is to work with people and all of their differences in ability and learning styles.
We get to see your friends more than you do! 😮
Most clients come once a week which is often more time than they get to spend with friends. It's hard to commit time to self care and part of self care is surrounding yourself with friends and family. Another part is exercise, of course!
Our solution? Semi private lessons!!
In a semi private lesson you share the hour with another person and the cost is a bit less than a private so it may fit in your budget better than a private lesson.
There is a spirit of friendship and community in these private lessons that can give you so much in a addition to great exercise. We've had clients come in to work together as friends or clients that become friends through pilates. It's very cool to see!
Let us know if we can set up some semi private lessons for you 🙂
