The first eight weeks of a dog’s life with their litter mates and their mother are extremely crucial to their overall long-term health and development.

During those eight weeks puppies learn how to communicate with their fellow dogs and what behavior is socially appropriate to display.

Additionally, the mother will teach the young puppies' boundaries and structure in the form of correction when they get out of hand.

A good breeder understands the importance of these first weeks of life and ensures that their pups are given adequate time with the litter and mother.

Backyard breeders on the other hand do not fully understand the importance that this has on the puppy’s development and so will often sell the puppies as soon as they begin eating solids.

This leads to many puppies being sold as early as four weeks thus missing out on half of that very important developmental window needed in life.

Backyard breeders often do this because as the puppies grow, they become harder to manage around the home and are prone to making messes.

Because of this it is extremely important to buy puppies from responsible breeders who have the long-term welfare of the dogs in mind.
