Foundations of Community Organizing - Training Building power for the common good in Spokane, WA.
Last week, over 60 leaders from Spokane Alliance institutions gathered for a Power Assembly to discuss who we are, where we are going, and how we will get there. We built relationships, recognized the people and money that have been organized, and clarified our values. The people who gathered voiced their support for a Racial Equity Values Statement, the formation of a Racial Equity Team, and changes to our membership agreement to formalize our values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
In addition, we made plans to build our power by deepening core team within our member institutions--a core team is a diverse, cross-section of leaders in an institution who build power to act together. They're our tool to strengthen institutions from within and bring pressures to the broader organization for action.
Thank you, Warren Seyler, for talking with Spokane Alliance leaders, about the history and future of the Spokane Tribe!

Thought provoking coverage on the resurgence of the Social Gospel.
“Great acts of faith are seldom born out of calm calculation,” added Fain, who often carries his grandmother’s Bible. “It wasn’t logic that caused Moses to raise his staff on the bank of the Red Sea. It wasn’t common sense that caused Paul to abandon the law and embrace grace. And it wasn’t a confident committee that prayed in a small room in Jerusalem for Peter’s release from prison. It was a fearful, desperate, band of believers that were backed into a corner.”
