During the morning portion of this PD, Creating Large Stem Engagement Events for your School or Organization with an Emphasis on Accessibility, educators will learn tips/tricks for a successful large STEM Engagement Event while being immersed nine hands-on activities which will be presented on a general level as they would be presented at a large STEM Engagement Event. The activities will include: Straw Rockets, Foam Rockets, Fizz Rockets, Stomp Rockets, Astrolunatics, Rotor Motor, Wing on a String, Wire End Effector, and the Robotic Finger. In the afternoon, Special Education Instructor and NASA OKSG STELLAR Mentor, Denis Dunn, will present how to make three of these activities accessible to all abilities through a variety of modifications and adaptations. Participants will then experience these modifications first-hand as they rotate through the modified activity tables. No prior knowledge required. All activities can be modified for all grades, Pre-K through 12th grade. Lunch will be provided.
In order to attend, you must be an in-service educator teaching Pre-K through 12th grade (any grade, any subject area) in either an Oklahoma public school or private school. You cannot have attended a previous NASA OKSG SEC Workshop covering STEM engagement events and accessibility topics. After Ms. Dunn has completed her portion of the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a research study (a brief questionnaire), if they so choose. Our hearts are heavy today with the passing of this incredible aerospace legend and American hero, General Stafford. We highly encourage all educators over the next couple of weeks to complete an aerospace activity with your students and share his story in memory of General Stafford- his legacy lives on!
It is with great sadness that the Stafford Air & Space Museum announces the passing of its namesake, Lt. General Thomas P. Stafford (USAF, ret.). General Stafford passed away on March 18, 2024 in Indian Harbor, Florida. General Stafford was 93.
Thomas Patten Stafford was born in Weatherford, Oklahoma on September 17, 1930, to Thomas and Mary (Patten) Stafford. He was raised in the western Oklahoma community of Weatherford and never forgot his roots; he was a proud “Weatherford Eagle” to the end. He often credited his hometown as the foundation for the incredible life and career that unfolded for him.
A special tribute section will be featured in the Tuesday edition of the Weatherford Daily News.

While we have not yet had an opportunity to post about our trip, the NASA OKSG took 19 educators on the NASA OKSG STELLAR Class of 2023-2024 VIP Trip to Johnson Space Center/ Space Exploration Educators Conference. This trip is an earned, by invitation, and optional portion of our NASA OKSG Year-long Pre-service and In-service Educator Mentorship: STELLAR.
This video is just a small glimpse as to why we do what we do! Immersing educators in space history through visits to NASA centers is just one of the many important aspects of the mentorship- once you watch the video with comments from just a few educators, I think you will see why! It will never get old seeing an educator experience their first look at the Saturn V with the Apollo capsule (all parts are from Apollo 18, 19, and 20 which were commissioned, but never flew)- absolutely incredible and one of our favorite moments every year!
Many thanks to Ashley Henry, one or our NASA OKSG STELLAR Mentors, for creating and sending this video to us!

This past Friday, December 1st, 2023, NASA OKSG had the honor of assisting Dr. Darron Lamkin and Class Matters, Inc with their ESTEAM event for middle school and high school students. The NASA OKSG STEM Engagement Center hosted a hands-on booth at this event using “Wing on a String” to demonstrate lift and drag. It was incredible to watch these young leaders experiment and work as a team to problem solve. Dr. Darron has created one outstanding organization and we can not wait to see all the places these kiddos go! We definitely have some NASA engineers in our future!
