Congratulations to the Puyallup Tribe of Indians on the grand opening of your new restaurant “Woven Seafood & Chophouse”.

The grand opening was a sacred ceremony with dancing, special prayer from the elder and cutting of the ribbon.

When you get a chance make reservations and support the newly opened restaurant that was formerly Shenanigans.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from Tacoma Urban League! 🇺🇸

Today, we join the nation in celebrating the 4th of July - a day that marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

On this historic day, 247 years ago, the Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain, King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states.

It's a day to remember the courage, vision, and unwavering spirit of the founding fathers who paved the way for the freedoms we cherish today.

As we enjoy the festivities, fireworks, and gatherings with loved ones, let's also take a moment to reflect on the values of liberty, justice, and equality that our nation was built upon.

🔴⚪🔵 Our CEO, Janice Lee, wants to remind everyone to stay safe and enjoy this special time with your friends and family. 🔴⚪🔵

Reminder: Our office is closed today in observance of the holiday.

Stay safe, have fun, and let's continue to work together to build a more inclusive and equitable community. Happy 4th of July, everyone! 🎉✨

The News Tribune has extensively covered the homelessness problem impacting Tacoma and Pierce County.

The News Tribune previously reported that more people in Pierce County experienced homelessness in 2023 than in any previous years. According to a presentation given by Valeri Almony, a social services program specialist with Pierce County, to the Pierce County Council’s Select Committee on Homelessness, 2,148 people were recorded to be experiencing homelessness in January 2023, up from 1,851 in 2022 and 1,005 people in 2021.

The News Tribune also previously reported on a Tacoma homeless encampment which was known as “The Jungle” which housed an estimated 30 people before it was removed last summer.

Earlier this year we had the honor of sponsoring an HBCU Tour for 41 Pierce County students in partnership with Ms. Antoinette Bates.

We believe in an engaging, challenging, and informative education that expands opportunity diversifies perspectives, balances an understanding of history and current circumstances, and is deeply grounded in lifelong learning, all existing within and beyond school.

The Urban League movement believes students, parents, and community stakeholders should opt-in to a vision of education reform and innovation that expands and deepens opportunity, upends inequity, accelerates progress, and delivers more fully on the promise of education.
