We are a compassionate intentional community providing transitional housing and support to people experiencing homelessness, recent immigrants and folks reintegrating after incarceration. In fact, we rely on donations, but they are not tax deductible. We are entirely supported by individuals; we accept no state funds. We provide no salaries, committing ourselves to voluntary simplicity, non-violent activism, and living with the poor.
Wow! we are so thankful to all the donations that have come in so far.
In case you were wondering, this project is HUGE and the team is still working really hard to finalize the last parts of pipe installation and fill the hole.
Over the weekend our sewage line collapsed!
Thankfully we had a very generous “Emergency Maintenance Fund”
However, this disaster nearly emptied our savings.
Please consider supporting us as we re-build this safety net.

We have all known
the long loneliness and
we have learned that
the only solution is
love and that
love comes with
community.

Sharing this wonderful community event opportunity: Jim Thomas is presenting his experience of the Pilgrimage for Peace with the Archbishop in Hiroshima and Nagasaki this past August where he served as their aide and resource person. He will be reflecting on his experience there and the implications for the future opportunities for peacemaking for Catholics in Western Washington.

Wish we could all be as cosy as this sweet Guadalupe House cat. Happy Monday neighbors 🪟
At Guadalupe House, we provide clean and sober transitional housing for single adults experiencing homelessness. We invite people to live in the house who need a place to stay, who are looking for stability, and who want support in working toward their goals.
Guests in Guadalupe House commit to living peacefully with others, caring for the house where they live, and saving a portion of their income toward future rent. We meet regularly with each guest to set goals and solve problems. The journey often includes seeking out counseling, paying off debt, and finding supportive friendships. Guests who complete our program have saved their first and last month’s rent and deposit, and have found housing. We offer a place where people can heal and move forward.
At this time we only accept single adults, we are unable to accept minors or families. Guadalupe House has a small number of rooms available at a given time. We work closely to Nativity House and AIDNW along with other agencies in Tacoma
Please contact us via email with questions.
Wishing all our neighbors a safe and warm Thanksgiving.
The Corporal Works of Mercy have been a guiding post through all of Catholic Worker history. Both Peter Maurin and Dorothy Day urged their community to follow these acts which lead to houses of hospitality that served the needs of the neighbors.
One of these is Bury the Dead.
Sometimes homeless folks pass away on the streets with no one to care for or remember them. Over the years the Tacoma Catholic worker has paid for cremation, held memorial services on our plaza, and interred the ashes with dignity and a grave marker in a dedicated area on our property.
Each year for Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) we put up an alter in Guadalupe House remembering our friends who have passed. 🕯️
A piece of a prayer said at last week’s Tuesday night Liturgy (full prayer below). Reminder that all are welcome to pop in for prayer, reflection, and a gorgeous meal every Tuesday. Prayer begins at 5:30 and the meal is around 6:15 🕯️
God of Life
Who heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds
May it be your will to hear the prayer of mothers
For you did not create us to kill each other
Nor to live in fear, anger or hatred in your world
But rather you have created us so we can grant permission to one another to sanctify
Your name of Life, your name of Peace in this world.
For these things I weep, my eye, my eye runs down with water
For our children crying at nights,
For parents holding their children with despair and darkness in their hearts
For a gate that is closing, and who will open it before the day has ended?
And with my tears and prayers which I pray
And with the tears of all women who deeply feel the pain of these difficult days
I raise my hands to you please God have mercy on us
Hear our voice that we shall not despair
That we shall see life in each other,
That we shall have mercy for each other,
That we shall have pity on each other,
That we shall hope for each other.
And we shall write our lives in the book of Life
For your sake God of Life
Let us choose Life.
For you are Peace, your world is Peace and all that is yours is Peace,
And so shall be your will and let us say Amen.
