Bringing awareness to Ovarian Cancer. The main focus of Teal Travels with Megan is to bring awareness to Ovarian Cancer. Why wasn't it considered?
This devastating disease took our precious daughter, Megan, from us in March 2023 at the young age of 28 years. By the time she was diagnosed at the age of 21, the cancer was already at Stage 4 Metastatic. Megan had experienced symptoms for years, but because of her age and having no family history of the disease, cancer was never considered the problem. We want to bring awareness to Ovarian Cance
Saw my first Tesla truck. I was waiting for Marty and Doc to roll down the window!
Did you know...
Early detection of ovarian cancer can be a challenge because there are no reliable screening tests for it.
The American Cancer Society (ACS)Trusted Source recommends that people undergo regular gynecological exams and contact a doctor if they have any possible symptoms for longer than a few weeks.
Ovarian Cancer Risk Factors
Nobody knows exactly what causes ovarian cancer. The lifetime risk of being diagnosed with it is 1.3%. Common ovarian cancer risk factors include:
Older age
Genetic mutations. Approximately 15% of ovarian cancers are linked to genetic mutations. Most are due to BRCA1 (BReast CAncer gene 1) or BRCA2 (BReast CAncer gene 2) mutations. However, other mutations can also be associated with ovarian cancer, including Lynch syndrome.
Family history of ovarian cancer: People with a relative diagnosed with ovarian cancer (such as a mother, sister, grandmother or aunt) have higher risk.
Endometriosis
Obesity
Early menstruation and late menopause
Never being pregnant
The only factor Megan had was Never being pregnant. Her great aunt was diagnosed a couple of years after her, but it was a different type.
Since you may have limited factors, it is so important to know the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer.
If you look down into the building, it looks like a tulip!
The museum doesn't have 90 degree corner because evil spirits can hide in them (at least that is what the builder thought).

Happy 4th to everyone! Meg traveled to upstate NY to see her sister's family. The fireworks were an added bonus!
Last site to see before the trip home.
Pearl Harbor today. Just lost the last survivor of the USS Arizona.😔
Beautiful day at the beach! Saw a couple of sea turtles!
At a local luau. Enjoying the scenery, music and drinks.
The sea arch on the left was wonderful to see! In time, the waves will erode the front column and leave a rock stack in its place. On the right is where the lava flows stopped. It is amazing to see where all the lava has hardened and a new garden/jungle will start growing again.
Went through a lava tube! Really cool... And wet! Rained a LOT up on the volcano. Had a great time though.
Right outside our rented condo. Exactly what you'd expect in Hawaii!
Megan's Teal Travels have started again! Miss Megan is visiting the Hawaiian volcanoes today and hoping to spread awareness of Ovarian Cancer and the symptoms to look for. Do you know the symptoms ? More pics to come as Internet access increases.
At 9:56 p.m. on November 22, 1994, our precious daughter, Megan Catherine Adkins, joined our family. She was a wonderful sister, girlfriend, niece, granddaughter and friend, but above all of that... she is an amazing daughter who we miss so much.
Her father and I chose to spend the day together and celebrate Megan's life. We shared memories and tears (but not too many tears because that isn't what she would want us to do).
Dinner tonight was at one of Megan's favorite places to eat-Panera Bread. Of course, I had to order Mac and Cheese! Her celebration included a wonderful cake. Happy 29th birthday, Baby Girl! Hope your Heavenly celebration was all you wanted and deserved.
Aaron and I continue to share Megan's story and also continue to talk with others about Ovarian Cancer. To honor Megan's memory, please share her story and inform others about the symptoms.
Welcome to our FaceBook page, Teal Travels with Megan! We look forward to sharing our travels with you!
