Today is Melanoma Monday
Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. On Melanoma Monday we are spreading the word about skin health, sun safety, tanning prevention, and skin cancer screenings. While melanoma and other skin cancers are not 100% preventable, there are ways to reduce your risk. We are on a mission to provide resources and information to bring awareness to melanoma, and hopefully reduce the number of melanoma diagnosis.
Ways to support Melanoma Monday:
Wear Black and/or Orange
Since Melanoma Monday was established, the colors black and orange have symbolized melanoma awareness. Put on your best black attire and head out to spread some support and awareness!
Educate
Educating yourself is a great place to start. From prevalence in the population to risk factors to types of skin cancer, there’s a lot of information to be learned. If you are a dermatology professional - help educate others about this deadly disease!
Post on social media
This day is about spreading awareness of melanoma and what better way to reach people than using social media? Spreading prevention and diagnosis tips might just save the life of someone you love.
By taking these steps, you can help raise awareness about melanoma and skin cancer prevention and support efforts to improve research and treatment options for those affected by this disease.
This summer, protect yourself and those you love by wearing your sunscreen every day, ☔ or ☀️. Regularly reapply every two hours or after you get out of water! Learn how to help your community : https://bit.ly/3Mdy1Ir
This Melanoma Monday, as we honor all those whose lives have been touched by skin cancer, we remember an amazing advocate and friend, Carola Gloyd. 🖤 A vibrant, positive force in this world, Carola was diagnosed with stage III melanoma at 28 years old. She battled melanoma and triumphed, founding her non-profit Warriors Against Melanoma to spread awareness and support research. Carola served on the National Council’s Don’t Fry Day committee and worked passionately to promote the campaigns. We miss her light, her laugh, her spontaneous, creative thinking, and her beautiful smile.
We know so many in our community carry the memories of beloved family members and friends as we strive to promote prevention, spread awareness, and support research. Our hearts are with all of you, and we thank you for your unwavering dedication to this important cause.
🖤 We love this interview with Carola from 2022: https://www.firstalert4.com/2022/05/27/skin-cancer-survivors-nonprofit-aimed-prevention/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR1aTwtrFO8gnAi-xKVDlwhKjuTczAyxlcA3VWg2_uVDBJ3qPAin2DycISo_aem_AacddVZ1J5dihpbS28-7Md0zyf-6NQ7IyzCab99w-KH68jgfZPiCAP9SSCpQzc9LOlFAwqncdSpHGcP_Td7E7_Y-
