We found that there was a demand for a more forum or group like use of ICPS Facebook so people can post pictures and talk about the plants. However, this would potentially bury some of the announcements and other news on this page under stacks of discussion. Therefore we set up the International Carnivorous Plant Society Forum to cater to this demand. You can find it here: https://www.facebook.com

Can you spot the real one? Teachers, the ICPS is accepting applications for Carnivores in the Classroom grants.

The ICPS has a grant program where we match up CP nurseries around the world with teachers at public and private schools who teach kindergarten through 12th grade to provide carnivorous plants for use in the classroom. If your country does not have a CP nursery pledging plants, we provide money to buy plants locally. We are approaching the end of the application period and have available slots.

In addition to receiving $150 of carnivorous plants, teachers will also get to choose 1 3D model of a carnivorous plant from Carnivorex

If you are a teacher or know a teacher who would like to use CPs in their classroom, there is more information at

https://www.carnivorousplants.org/education/ClassroomGrants

The open period for grant requests ends August 31, 2024.

If you are curious about how the grants were used in previous years, we have lesson plans the teachers used to go along with the plants.

New discovery fundamentally changes the way we understand Charles Darwin’s most beloved plant – the sundew

A new study has found a symbiotic relationship that has evolved between Darwin’s favourite carnivorous plant and a specific type of fungus which lives inside it and helps it digest its prey.

Researchers from Loughborough, Taiwan and USA have shown that Acrodontium crateriforme, a fungus that thrives in the acidic conditions on the leaves, improves the digestion of the Drosera species of carnivorous plant – otherwise known as a sundew (pictured above), and once described by Charles Darwin as, "a wonderful plant… I care more about Drosera than the origin of all the species."
