The Office for Study Abroad (OSA) provides and facilitates quality international educational opportunities at The George Washington University.
As educators, we promote the academic, personal, professional, and intercultural development of students before, during, and after their study abroad experiences. We respond effectively to student needs, contribute to campus internationalization, and foster cultural understanding and self-awareness among the student body. The OSA primarily works with undergraduate students; some short-term, faculty-led graduate programs are administered through the OSA as well.
See what current student in the Global Bachelor’s Program has to say about Paris: “With an endless list of things to see in Paris, this past month has gone by super fast! I visited the iconic Eiffel tower, the Palais Garnier, Napoleon’s tomb, the Pantheon, and the Luxembourg Palace.”

.b : “Vienna has definitely become one of my favorite cities so far! From spending hours wandering through incredible museums to getting lost in the most beautiful gardens and stumbling upon magnificent cathedrals, it feels like every corner of the city is straight out of a fairytale🧚🏾♀️. I got to hear live music in the parks, tried all the amazing Viennese snacks I could find, and even got to see a show at the famous Vienna State Opera🎶 which was the highlight of my weekend there ✨ I already miss it so much!”
Here’s a testimonial from a current GW student in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences:
“Hi! My name is Bridget, and I’m currently a junior majoring in biomedical engineering. This semester, I’m studying abroad at Queen Mary University of London, and it’s been such a positive experience so far! Queen Mary’s Fall semester begins a bit later than most schools in the U.S., so we didn’t start classes until mid-September. Because of that, I’ve only been in classes for about a month, which gave me plenty of time to explore the city. My favorite London spots thus far include Borough Market, Notting Hill, Hyde Park, and Old Spitalfields Market. One thing I really enjoy about London is how many green spaces there are. There’s even a gorgeous park just a 10-minute walk from Queen Mary’s campus, which I’ve been visiting regularly between my classes.
In addition to exploring London, I’ve been taking advantage of my weekends to travel around Europe. So far, I’ve visited Vienna, Austria, and Porto, Portugal, both of which were high on my travel bucket list. I’ve already got a few more trips planned for the semester, and I can’t wait to explore more of Europe! Overall, I’ve had a great experience studying abroad. Being in London has been amazing, and I’m so grateful I made the decision to spend my Fall semester here. It’s been the perfect balance of academics, travel, and personal growth.”
: “Last week, I was very excited to have my parents visit me in Barcelona. I spent the week bringing them to some of my favorite spots, enjoying Barcelona’s delicious food and exploring the beautiful architecture. Most notably, my parents loved the work of Antoni Gaudí. I was so happy that they got to experience just a week of this amazing time that I am so grateful to have!”
.b : “This past week, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Madrid, Spain with my Developmental Psychopathology class for our Long Study Tour. We explored several psychiatric institutions, visited Madrid’s first psychology university, toured clinics specializing in patients with ASD, and even made a stop at the modern art museum. During our free time, we immersed ourselves in the beauty of the city—wandering through parks and sculpture gardens, thrifting, watching a captivating Flamenco performance, enjoying live music, and SOOOO much more. The weather was perfect, offering a wonderful break from the chilly air of Stockholm…While I’m already missing Madrid, I’m happy to be back just in time to see the trees in Stockholm turning vibrant shades of red, yellow, and orange signifying that fall is here💛🧡❤️”
.naidjate : “So far, two of my favorite things about Morocco have been the sunsets and the cats. It’s no wonder the Arabic name for is Morocco “Al Maghrib,” referring to the place and time where the sun sets. My homestay is a short walk from the beach so I’ve been seizing every opportunity to watch the sunsets. I’ve also encountered so many friendly and adorable cats all over the city, including on the beach!”
.aaaa : “Now is about the halfway point through the semester. It makes me sad every now and then that I am going to have to leave this amazing place in about 2 months. This weekend the GW group here in Chile got together for a mid-semester outing near Cajón de Maipo. This gorge is just outside the city of Santiago, and is gorgeous. The video shows our drive over to Cajón de Maipo. It is still so amazing to me to be able to be in a large city and just look outside my window east to see the Andes mountains and all its beauty. I think that Chileans, at least in Santiago, are very aware of the beauty that the entire country has and are very proud of it. I can completely understand why!
I am trying my best to enjoy the beauty of the city and the surrounding nature, despite the increase in school work that has started!”
.monrreal : “While I’m enjoying the last few weeks of warm weather I’ve been going outside a lot more than I usually would before it starts getting cold. There are a few hiking trails in my town which I’ve been doing. Since Geneva, and therefore lake Geneva, sits rights on the border of France, there’s actually boat that goes across lake Geneva to different towns in France. Last weekend I went to a small medieval town called Yvoire, which like the name has lots of older buildings and a castle. Because it’s directly across the lake, you can also see Nyon (in Switzerland).”
: “For my mid-semester break, I wanted to take my parents (who love flowers) to the Floriade festival in Canberra! Here, there were vast landscapes of flowerbeds beautifully designed as different artworks, local artist market stalls, and different carnival rides to celebrate the spring season! 🌸🌼🌷🌻”
Are you interested in studying abroad in Rome 🇮🇹 or did you recently come back from studying abroad there? Then you might want to check out the Luther Brady Gallery’s newest exhibit: “Rome Now.” The exhibition features artwork that captures Rome through Piranesi’s etchings from the 1700s juxtaposed with Rome illustrated by modern artists. Check out what current GW student Ethan Wertlieb has to say about life in Switzerland:
“On the weekends I have been able to do some small trips around the area. There are practically unlimited hiking opportunities in Zürich itself, not even including if you are to take a train to neighboring regions within Switzerland. Here is a picture of some farmland outside the city overlooking a valley. While the scene in this image looks pretty rural, it is actually surprisingly close to the bustling urban areas of Zürich! This close distance between city life (which is still nothing like the “city-life” many of us may be familiar with in the United States) and the relative calm and quiet of the countryside is something I am beginning to appreciate and love very much.”
.aaaa : “As my semester continues here in Santiago, I have been continuing to explore the vast city. I have tried lots of new foods and been to many new places! I visited one of the oldest colonial-era buildings in the city, the Iglesia de San Francisco. Over the weekend I went to the top of Cerro San Cristobal to see the entire city, and it was gorgeous. I knew Santiago was big, but seeing it from above really made me realize this city is huge and has so much to offer. I went on a wine tour/tasting at Viña Santa Rita on international wine day and it was not only a gorgeous place but also a very educational tour. The estate has been there since 1880 and their type of wine is very popular in Chile.
One of my favorite things I have gotten to see over these last 2 weeks has been the street art in Valparaíso. It is interesting how appreciated this art form is in this city. Many shop owners will pay street artists to do a mural, which was really cool to see! One of the artists does all of their art by sharpie, which I thought was super unique and I love the style of it. Here’s to exploring Chile!”
