Pertussis, also called whooping cough, is a disease caused by bacteria. It’s easily spread person to person, mainly through coughing and sneezing. It’s known for causing uncontrollable coughing which can make it hard to breathe. Vaccination is the best way to protect against pertussis. There are vaccines for all age groups, and especially pregnant people. The childhood vaccine is called DTaP, and the booster for adolescents and adults is called Tdap! With April coming to an end, this is a reminder of some important STI information to consider during STI/STD Awareness Month. 1 in 5 people in the US have a STI, which is a major public health problem. STI's are more common than you think. Stay alert and take some time to learn a little bit more about STI's.
