Studies have shown that brief, low-cost intervention and supportive, ongoing contact may be an important part of su***de prevention, especially for individuals after they have been discharged from hospitals or care services. Making contact with a friend in the days and weeks after a crisis can make a difference in keeping them alive. Check-in with the person you care about regularly.

Under a new policy, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will cover all emergency mental healthcare services at no cost for veterans experiencing an "acute suicidal crisis" — including for vets who are not enrolled in the VA healthcare system.

Veterans can now access free emergency mental healthcare services under new VA policy This move will expand access to care for up to 9 million, or roughly half of U.S. veterans who are not already enrolled in the VA.

✨I talked about stories we make up in my This Is Us-Is This You?® Event last week! ✨

✨Our brains feel safer and more secure when all the blanks are filled in.

✨Making up stories initially reduces stress.

✨However, our survival instinct
often outsmarts our logic and quickly pulls up old experiences to remind us how we need to be on guard or how we were previously hurt.

⚡️Often, these stories are created at lightning speed, and we don’t even recognize what is happening within our heads!

✨Some examples of these stories in everyday life may include receiving an unexpected phone call from our child’s school or our boss asking to see us.

✨We may not know why
these persons need to speak with us, but we are quickly creating the possible reasons.

✨We need to listen, ask questions and get curious about the situation or share with other people these stories we make up in our heads, so they can poke holes in them and let the truth come into the light.

✨Often when we begin to say it out loud or ask questions and get curious about the story, we can quickly and easily see that the story is not factual and merely old wounds in disguise!✨
