The ideal college education can yield rocket scientists who write poetry 04/05/2017

"When you ask the employers at huge corporations and technology companies what they need in their new employees, they want people who can communicate and learn quickly outside of their comfort zone, both traits fostered better by a liberal arts education than a solely technical degree.” Now, more than ever, jobs are in need of people who can think creatively. Explore how an arts-centered education at Crosswinds School can help YOUR child soar by calling 651-539-2600 and scheduling a visit today.

The ideal college education can yield rocket scientists who write poetry The liberal arts train students to thrive in subjectivity and ambiguity, a necessary skill in the tech world where few things are black and white.

The Paper Dreams of Harry Chin | History Theatre 03/14/2017

There is a new exhibition by Minnesota artist Wing Young Huie in conjunction with the important and timely play by Jessica Huang,
The Paper Dreams of Harry Chin, at the History Theatre. Wing photographed and collected the stories of families and descendants of those affected by the Chinese Exclusion Act whose parents, grandparents, or great grandparents left China and entered the United States under a false paper name.

They were known as Paper Sons and Daughters. All of the people photographed are holding photographs from their family archives.

The exhibition will consist of larger than life photos on the outside walls of the History Theatre and an interactive display in the lobby, where audience members are invited to add their ancestral photos and stories, transforming the exhibition into a shrine of remembrance.

Those who came before us traversed borders, often hiding their true selves, even to those who loved them most, leaving a legacy of unknowing. What did our ancestors endure? How much are we a product of that endurance? What do we know of their struggle? Maybe they would have told us more if only we had asked. If only we had wanted to know more. Our memories are shaped by the images they left. Precious family photographs are, in essence, paper dreams.

The exhibition & play open this Saturday, March 18 with a 7:30pm curtain and run through April 9, 2017. Tickets: $15 - 40.
