One of the initiatives by - a nonprofit organization in Livingstone, Zambia - is a sports program for children of all ages. These boost confidence, encourage healthy living, and are great fun.

Residents of a home built by - a nonprofit organization in Zambia that is dedicated to building homes and creating employment for families living in rural areas around Livingstone. 🙌🏼

“Upon completion of a family assessment, homes are built by pairing Okodwela resources with local labor and materials,” they explain. “Each home is built on its own plot of land, will have two rooms, and will be equipped with a toilet, individual water purifier bottles per family member, mattresses, pillows, and a title/deed for lifetime ownership.”

The organization also conducts individual family need assessments to meet basic medical, educational, and household needs.

Based in Cape Town, is a team of green-fingered folks dedicated to improving food security by creating food gardens in neighborhoods that need them. (And by running a bunch of other programs - check out their work!) 🌱

Encouraging kids to explore the natural world (in great detail!). Our volunteer photographers recently joined the lovely team, as they offered fun and interactive workshops at schools. Through yoga sessions and environmental education, Earthchild Project aims “to create meaningful and sustainable change through our holistic and experiential education programmes, with a focus on life-skills, wellness, environment and leadership.” 🍃 💚

This is Lynne, the founder of - a nonprofit dedicated to animal welfare in Livingstone and its surrounding villages. Their aim is "to have a smaller, healthier population of domestic animals and to reduce the populations of feral dogs and cats through spaying and neutering campaigns, vaccinations, and educating the local population on animal welfare." 🐾

We had the pleasure of visiting - a training center in Simonga, a rural Zambian village near Livingstone. Twaabane runs vocational skills workshops for community members, and both team members and participants were welcoming to our volunteer photographers. ✨

The Sewing Cafe is a South African social enterprise that creates both jobs and beautiful products. Based in Masiphumelele, a township area in Cape Town, the team has trained more than 100 unskilled and unemployed people from the local community. They also teach teenage kids from a local township how to sew in their Afternoon Sewing Club program. 🙌🏼

As stated on their website, the Sewing Cafe offers "a hub where textile entrepreneurs begin their business journeys by using our equipment to sew and create their unique designs."

The Zambezi Working Donkey Project was formed under a mango tree back in 2019. Based in Livingstone, Zambia, this organization works hard to improve the lives of working donkeys; animals that often live in suboptimal conditions.

The Early Learning Resource Unit (ELRU) is a nonprofit organisation with forty-three years’ experience in the Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector. Established in 1978, they support the cognitive development of vulnerable young children ages. 👏🏼

Redhill Soup Kitchen, Cape Town.

Perched on a hill on the outskirts of Cape Town, Redhill is an informal settlement of approximately 400 makeshift households. Many families struggle financially, and this small soup kitchen works hard to offer people free meals. 👏🏼

This group of passionate individuals are working towards better lives for working donkeys through education and rescue programs.

Our nonprofit photography program is only possible thanks to the collaboration with wonderful local grassroots charities in Cape Town.

One of these is TEARS Animal Rescue – a nonprofit that cares for lost, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals. We recently got the chance to capture some of the volunteers and vets pouring their heart and soul into caring for their four-legged friends.

In Masiphumelele, a township of the Western Cape, MASICORP works hard to empower residents in disadvantaged positions. They achieve this through education, which is – in their own words – the surest route out of poverty.

During our recent round of the nonprofit photography programme, we witnessed Masicorp’s meaningful work at one of their “Life Skills” programmes. This programme is provided in partnership with Evangeline Ministries. It runs for 6 weeks and teaches basic English, computer and sewing skills to enhance the women’s everyday lives and help them gain self-confidence and pride in their work. ✨

The Bookery partners with schools in need to build “vibrant and well-stocked libraries” for their young learners. With the support of professional librarians, these libraries are filled with fiction, non-fiction, and reference books and are continuously maintained and expanded by trained library assistants.

Funda Kunye made it their mission to equip caregivers with the knowledge and support they need to appropriately care for babies and toddlers.

Funda Kunye means ‘Learn Together’ in isiXhosa and that is also the organisation’s ultimate goal: To grow together as a community and help children in reaching their full potential.

The non-profit Free Haven Community Initiative made it its mission to offer education, nutrition, health services, and empowerment programs for vulnerable communities in and around Livingstone, Zambia.

Free Haven’s projects include the Girl and Boy Impact Programs; initiatives focused on educating everyone on gender equality, gender-based violence, sexual/reproductive health, and more.

We recently had the pleasure of visiting the Zambezi Working Donkey Project. Here, a team of dedicated volunteers works hard to improve the lives of working donkeys in Zambia. The small charity achieves this by educating people on the correct treatment of these precious animals as well as rescuing and rehabilitating donkeys in need. 🙌
