🌍 World Hypertension Day 🩺: Your journey to better heart health starts with simple steps. Swipe ➡️
Discover 10 holistic tips - 5 dietary and 5 activity-based - to better manage and prevent hypertension.
Remember, small changes in your daily routine can lead to significant differences in your blood pressure. Prioritise your heart, and let's take on hypertension together! 💪❤️
Pressure care is not something to take lightly - Here are 3 Tips to help you manage it 🌡️
When it comes to wheelchair users, pressure care is of utmost importance.🩺 Extended periods of sitting can lead to pressure sores - painful and potentially severe. But with consistent care, these risks can be mitigated.
1️⃣ Keep Moving: Remember to adjust your position often! From a slight lean to a full lift, any movement can help redistribute pressure.
2️⃣ Cushion Counts: Don't skimp on your cushion - choose a quality pressure-relief model. Such cushions are designed to evenly distribute weight, reducing the chance of pressure sores.
3️⃣ Check Regularly: Keep a keen eye on your skin for early signs of pressure sores. Look out for changes in colour, texture, or temperature.
Pressure care is vital for skin health and overall comfort. It's a simple solution to prevent a possible bigger issue down the line. Be vigilent 🎯
💪 Check out Lucy working on safely lifting her wheelchair into her car. This may seem like a small task to some, but it's a giant leap towards independence for many of our patients at Therapy and Beyond
Learning to transfer your chair with good technique can help reduce the risk of shoulder injuries and, when performed regularly throughout the day, it contributes to overall fitness levels.
It's tasks like these that, when learned to execute safely, help foster independence and confidence among our patients. They transform daily challenges into medial tasks, improving the user’s overall quality of life.
Well done Lucy!
Every step forward, no matter how small, is a victory worth celebrating! 🎉 We've created a 'Milestone Wall' to recognise and celebrate the progress of each patient in our family.
From lifting a leg for the first time post-injury, to managing a transfer unassisted, to standing or taking those cherished first steps, every achievement gets a spot on our wall 🏆
We believe in the power of positivity and the strength that comes from shared success. Each milestone not only inspires the person achieving it, but also motivates others in their own journey.
Here's to every victory, big or small, and to many more to come. Let's fill this wall together! 🙌
For Mandela Day, we were reminded of Madiba's words: "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead."
In honour of these words, we spent the day making a difference in our community. 🤝 Thanks to the generous sponsorship from HomeChoice, we were able to distribute warm, cosy blankets to four disability communities: Cloetesville, Kayamandi, Macassar, and Franschoek. 🙏
They're our way of sharing a little warmth during our winter and amidst the recent floods in the Western Cape. They're symbols of our unity, solidarity, and commitment to stand by each other during trying times.
We believe that by lending a hand and showing care, we can help build a warmer, more inclusive world. Just as Madiba did.
Thank you, Homechoice and ACT Logistics, for your support, and to every person in our community making a differencs.
Who said sitting down means slowing down? 🔥💪 Not at Walking With Brandon! Here, some of our members may be seated all day, but that doesn't stop them from getting their heart rates up and bodies moving!
Our adaptive cardio exercises ensure everyone can engage, benefit and most importantly, feel the burn! Air bikes, rowing, skiing, resistance workouts - our sessions are designed to challenge, stimulate and build endurance.
Remember, no matter what your ability level, there's always a way to get moving, get healthy, and feel stronger! So, let's break those stereotypes and sweat it out together! 💯
Today, on , we celebrate the Para Athletics World Championships currently happening in Paris🏅Mirroring the courage, unity, and resilience that brought about a revolution in France in 1789 🇫🇷
The athletes competing at these championships embody the spirit of revolution in their quest for equality. Each of them has broken down barriers, defied the odds, and risen above challenges in a manner not unlike the revolutionaries who tore down the Bastille centuries ago.
Just as the Bastille was a symbol of oppression, society's barriers can be just as confining but less visible for people with disabilities. Today, let us pledge to tear down these walls of prejudice and exclusion, and create a world that is truly inclusive and accessible for all.
The strength of our society lies in its diversity. Let's celebrate this by cherishing the victories at the Para Athletics World Championships and promoting a more understanding, equal and accessible world. Vive la révolution! Vive la différence! 🕊️💙♿

Tip: Try new adventures on your Sunday Outings with a FreeWheel 🦽
There are so many places one can’t go when using a wheelchair, so this handy attachment makes it effortless when handling different terrains - from grass and gravel to forest trails.
Kenneth recently got one and said it was a complete game-changer. The joy and freedom that comes with exploring new places is priceless for someone who already is so limited by a lack of accessibility.
If you're keen to broaden your horizons like Kenneth, consider giving the FreeWheel a whirl. To purchase one, feel free to contact our friends at Chairman Industries.
Get ready to take your adventures to new heights! Go give that hiking trail a try. Good luck on the up hill 💪🏼😅
🥲 Yesterday we said goodbye to our incredible biokineticist, Tayla, as she starts a new chapter in an exciting role at UCT 🎓
Throughout her time with us, Tayla has played a monumental part in our growth. She's been more than just a bio, she’s been a beacon of inspiration and a driving force behind our mission. Her expertise and dedication have transformed the lives of many patients and left a lasting mark on all of us.
Tayla, We will all miss you tremendously, but are buzzing with excitement for this incredible opportunity that has come your way. We're sad to see her go, but couldn't be proud.
Remember, you’ll always have a home at WWB! 🥂
🥇With South Africa’s first advanced outpatient neuro rehab programme since 2015, we are proud to have it available at two Therapy and Beyond Centres - Pinelands and Stellenbosch
Our centres stand as a testament to our continuous endeavour to provide specialised rehabilitation services to more individuals with physical disabilities.
These photos show how our set-up has changed over the years, from humble beginnings at SSISA.
Our team has always brought together experts from various disciplines, ensuring a comprehensive and individualised approach to rehabilitation, focusing on the unique needs of each patient.
We're incredibly proud of our progress, and we thank you all for your ongoing support and belief in our mission.
👀 We’ve all seen that surprised glance when someone sees a person with a disability out in public.
It's a look that says, "I didn't expect to see you here." But why not? People with disabilities shop, dine, attend concerts, travel, work, and enjoy all aspects of life just like everyone else.
Our communities, streets, parks, shops, and restaurants are for everyone. Let's work on changing our perceptions.
After all, surprise should be reserved for unexpected birthday parties or winning lottery tickets, not for seeing someone live their life.

Medicine balls might seem simple in appearance, but these weighted balls present unique challenges for individuals with disabilities.
Coordinating a catch, controlling a toss, or even just gripping the ball can be a complex task. Medicine balls require not just strength but also balance, motor control, and spatial awareness. 🏋️♀️
Our patients tackled these exercises with determination, adapting and learning as they went along. The sessions are challenging but productive and constantly showcase the importance of these therapeutic exercises in the rehabilitation journey.
🍝 Look at this amazing moment from today's occupational therapy session!
Our dedicated patient spent the day mastering the art of pasta making.
From kneading the dough to rolling it out, the most simple of tasks can be the most challenging, but show perseverance and skill 👌🏼
Occupational therapy isn't just about recovering physical abilities, it's about rediscovering the joy in everyday activities and gaining the confidence to engage with the world around us.
Today, it was all about pasta, but the real success is the progress made and the independence gained. 🌟
Well done Dave, our pasta maestro! We're so proud of your progress and can't wait to see what you'll cook up next! 👨🍳

Who are we?
We believe that rehabilitation is a right, not a privilege, and that all South Africans should have unobstructed access to high-quality outpatient rehabilitation, regardless of their income.
In 2012, a tragic gymnastics accident left Brandon Beack wheelchair-bound as a quadriplegic. Following 10 weeks of inpatient therapy, the Beack family struggled to find an outpatient facility that met all of Brandon’s rehabilitation needs, and private healthcare was simply too costly. They realised that outpatient facilities providing rehabilitation that is financially accessible to the average South African are few and far between, and it was this dilemma that lead them to Shepherd Centre, an outpatient facility based in the USA that provides cutting-edge rehabilitation and advanced medical care. The Beacks poured everything they had into getting Brandon to Shepherd Centre, and at the time, they had no idea just how important and foundational this trip would be.
During his time there, Brandon benefitted tremendously from the expertise of Shepherd Center’s medical professionals, and their array of rehabilitative technology and equipment helped him make remarkable improvements in his recovery. He returned to South Africa with a new mindset, determined to make the standard of medical care that he experienced available to those South Africans who need it the most – thus, Walking with Brandon was born.
Armed with the knowledge and skills of highly-trained medical professionals, and the aid of generous donors, the Beacks were able to procure some incredible pieces of rehabilitative technology – using the story of their son’s accident as a way to create hope for themselves and for the disabled community. The end result was WWB’s Therapy & Beyond Programme, a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation based on the latest research.
