We spend roughly 75-80% of our lives as adults. What we believe about ourselves matters more than any academic lesson.

When this clicked for me, I realized that children's mental health is crucial to the greater picture of their lives.

Happy Mother's Day to every kind of mom.

The ones up all night with newborns, the empty nesters who still wake at night, and worry.

The moms trying to conceive, and those carrying small miracles, waiting to meet their sons and daughters.

The divorced moms who ache over empty bedrooms, and time, and distance. The solo moms who feel overwhelmed by it all.

The teenage mothers, hovering themselves between childhood and motherhood. I know you.

The moms who have lost babies, and will never lose the ache to hold them.

The first time moms, startled by the intensity of the love, the experienced mamas, guiding the rest.

The stepmoms, foster moms, and the moms waiting to adopt. The moms holding blended families together, navigating unimaginable emotion.

The exhausted moms, the proud moms, the moms who get up at night just to have one more look at their sweet toddlers, before the little beasts rise and resume their wrecking ball antics.

The moms who are in constant negotiations with teens; their children now unrecognisable in their gangly, pimply, phase of chaos.

Here's to the aunts who step up as mom, the grannies who are doing round two, or three, or four. The dads who are doubling as mom, too. And the Godmothers, you're beautiful.

Here's to my mom, and her huge capacity for love.
