Creating spacious time for ourselves is the most rich of it all. In order to continue creating and sharing and dreaming and being all the things - we have to find moments of pause, in whatever form that looks like for you. Until such time that our body tells us to, our mind tries to catch up. Thank you for being my reminder 🪬

It’s not often that I sit back and fully absorb our Thursday mornings, until the moment’s passed — so this was an absolute treat! ☔️

(and now our official wet weather plan hehe)

❗️❗️Women deserve safety, strength, opportunity, stability, employment, freedom, nurturing, healthcare, education, equality❗️❗️Human rights.

All sunrise class proceeds for the entire month of May will be directed to local not-for-profit organisations supporting women and children escaping domestic violence within our community.

I began to write this post last Wednesday, 24th of April, attempting to articulate my explosive rage at the obscene fact that 31 women had been killed in Australia in 2024. Since then, 8 days later, 36 lives have now been destroyed by violence. Mothers, daughters, sisters, colleagues, friends - human life.

If you’re not angry and upset with the Australian society and government failing us, killing us, you’re simply not paying attention.

…Where is the matriarchy?

What began as a strength and flexibility movement practice, soon became ther**eutic. Yoga became a form of regulation, to support the processes of my mind, to tune in with the impacts on my physical system and psychological state, in order to better respond, to life - at work, in relationships - the mundane, the everyday - through it all.

On particularly heavy days at the hospital, I feel it first in my lungs, a weight, holding and rigid. A state of discomfort, dis-ease, marked by physical presentations of the mind. I become introspective, replaying, analysing, considering, thinking. Constantly evolving through a cycle of debriefing, processing and releasing.

I have become attuned to observing these heightened communications from my body, carving out time for pranayama and gentle asana, sunshine and so much salt water. Green space. Blue space. Head space.

My idea is to create a community practice of movement in nature, together, to find clarity, connection and conversation. Tangible experiences, in a comforting space with others, to explore what supports you, while opening opportunities in the mind to lean into the wind and continue listening.

May the new year be a reminder that you
are the greatest version of yourself you have ever been, in this accumulated moment.

If there is apprehension, meet yourself with gratitude. If there is rigidity, meet yourself with understanding. If there is unease, know that the answers are not needed right now, beyond the time to find home in your own body.

Finding home within will not cure us of all ailments or create instant resolve, but in the moments of grief and heartbreak, negativity, anger, and unknown, a solace can ooze through us with a sense of familiarity, knowing our thoughts are merely that, and both our physical body in the present moment and our soul transcends us.

There is always time to listen to this eternal communication inside us as we continue to grow.

Four years on.
The whispering’s continue — return

Photos from YAM's post 23/11/2023

This time of year might elicit a sense of incompleteness, unease, agitation even, dwelling on moments from the past whilst projecting to the impending new year ahead, perceived underwhelming progression, flooded with comparison, and the chaos of an over-booked Christmas season lingering 😮‍💨 Sound familiar? Society is good at that.

We all make necessary changes, perhaps based on a desire for deeper connection, safety, financial stability, growth, greater flexibility, boredom, challenge, or perhaps it stems from the d i s c o m f o r t of sitting s t i l l.

Do you sometimes run when you could walk?

Forward propulsion does not necessarily require dramatic change, but often offers the chance to sink our teeth deeper and notice that the road ahead does not always lead to two distinct paths.

Can you shift your perspective?

Next time you want to run, to make radical change … can you sit with this extraction of your mind, which might translate into a physical sensation, and identify the root cause? Observe where you wanting to run to, and why?

Two reminders to carry with you always.

[ 1. Svādhyāya - self-study ]

Yoga offers us the opportunity to sit. To pause before action, before reaction, before impulse. The deeper we learn to observe, the deeper we can find meaning and understanding for ourselves and our relationships with others. Creating ease in decisions and interactions, through truth not fear.

[ 2. Santosha - contentment in this moment ]

Yoga offers us synchronicity, to flow down every winding path in life. To know that we are whole, exactly as we are.

To find home within.

⏰ Set your alarms a little earlier — start time is changing for Summer to beat the heat 🥵

09/11/2023

HELLO — a little love letter to say THANK YOU to every single person who I have shared a class with through and

It has been a HUGE 2 years living, working and teaching on the coast, and every bit completely absorbingly wonderful. I have been filled with so much joy in community, soaking up a whole heap of connections, learnings, and answers to big-bang ponders of what is deeply important for me in life 💛

From my own practice, I think it’s so vitally important in yoga to disengage with the societal pressures or expectations of “turning up” to class. Rather, the learned independence to simply “show up” for yourself, in whatever form that takes, through each season of life instead. I hope this mantra oozes through to you, and I can continue reminding you to listen to your own body always - and d o n o h a r m. Ensuring that you are continuing to water your garden, not only planting the seeds 🪷
Taking a big spoonful of my own medicine in this moment 🥣

I am eternally grateful for your time, love and support that encourages me to continue expanding my offerings to the community. Particularly those close to me who support the slightly wild balance I maintain between my two worlds — thank you ☯️

I can promise that my classes will always be accessible for all bodies and all levels.

With plenty of fun, special events for the community on the horizon 👀🪩🎆

Here’s to sunshine for breakfast for a long while to come!

✨ Om shanti, shanti, shanti.

A note to let you know: Your little people and four-legged angels are always welcome on the sand!

My Mumma has been sneaking a heap more sunrise classes into her weeks recently 🫶🏼 and is the one who took me to my first yoga class at 16. (She also went to her first class at the same age with her Mum!)

✨My grandma practiced Tai Chi every morning, along with a devotional meditation and mantra prayer practice, with a life rich in study and movement; a master of both solitude and community. ✨ Reflecting on her life brings me a whole heap of connection to family while teaching and sharing these moments of movement, meditation and self-exploration with you all ✨ I know her passion and understanding of the science of our mind-body connection is deep in my cells, with her genes running through me.

Having little ones join class, in what may be their first ever yoga experience, fills me to the brim! 😌
We have had babes in prams, on the sand, in utero, and big kids in their 30’s with parents in their 70’s (!) AMAZING 🩵

Thank you for soaking up these mornings with me, and sharing practice at sunrise with your family & friends.

The Gravitron is a vibe until you realise it’s real life, and you can’t get off 💬

Welcome to Mental Health Awareness week 〰️ It doesn’t matter what it looks like for you, only that it makes you feel good.

Prioritise moments for yourself and prioritise the power of your mind 🧠 Move, swim, run, walk, sculpt, bake, laugh, create ⛰️🌱🦋🌞🏄‍♀️
Increase your production of endorphins and expand the messages from your diaphragm to your brain in fresh air, letting your body know it is safe to rest.
Acknowledging that the fast-paced world we live in mostly does not allow us to ever truly “switch-off”, requires a conscious effort for
head-space and time to restore.

Make time to simply exist in the present moment, with the knowledge that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

Reach out to a friend, and set your alarm — make time for yourself. Be inquisitive, listen deeply to yourself and those around you in all seasons.

Join us every Thursday at sunrise 💛

DO YOGA. FEEL GOOD.
