SI Melbourne, represented by members Robyn Byrne and Maggie Mitchell, had the pleasure of attending the 2023 Honour Board Celebration at the Epworth Medical Foundation.
The presentations by the Executive Director and Prof. Miles Prince highlighted the impact of philanthropy on every aspect of work and life at Epworth. Fundraising is critical to supporting cutting edge medical research and technical innovations. Funds raised have provided staff scholarships, dog therapy fund, and a $1M Cocoon Platform to produce chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells for the treatment of blood cancers such as lymphoma, myeloma, and leukaemia. Notably, the Cocoon Platform enabled a reduction in treatment cost for cancer patients from $600,000 per person to $10,000 per person. CAR-T cell therapy will soon replace chemotherapy as a standard treatment for cancer patients.
SI Melbourne is a proud supporter of with a donation in 2015.
