Do you know what the five leading underlying causes of death are for men?

1. Coronary heart disease
2. Dementia including Alzheimer’s disease
3. COVID-19
4. Lung cancer
5. Stroke (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2024).

This week is International Men’s Health Week, and physiotherapists play a strong role in men's health, particularly as they age, being part of a multidisciplinary team that helps to treat all five of these conditions. This year's focus is on encouraging men to make time for regular health checks to help detect many conditions that are largely preventable.

If you, or a man in your life is interested in seeing a physiotherapist, visit https://choose.physio to Find A Physio.

The APA and Australasian Birth Trauma Association - ABTA applaud the NSW Select Committee on Birth Trauma report on its recommendation for physiotherapy to treat birth injuries. The report recognises the multifaceted impact of birth trauma and the critical importance of pelvic health physiotherapy for birthing parents in antenatal care.

‘It is pleasing the Select Committee has called on the NSW Government to fund physiotherapy postpartum services to support those who acquire a pelvic floor injury during childbirth,’ said leading women’s health physiotherapist and APA Board director Catherine Willis, who gave evidence at the inquiry hearing.

‘If accepted by the NSW Government, this is an opportunity for strong health reform leadership with the potential to have broader implications nationally,’ Ms Willis said.

This week, a few of our team members had the privilege of attending a professional development session hosted by Health presenting on hip joints and cannabis use. As a pelvic health clinic, it's crucial for us to have a holistic approach to understanding our patients' concerns. And yes, the pelvis is indeed attached to the hip bones!👀👀 At our pelvic health clinic, we often see conditions where issues in one area influence the other, such as:

👉 Hip Pain and Pelvic Dysfunction
👉 Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) Pain
👉 Pelvic Fractures and Hip instability
👉 Coccyx Pain and Hip Mechanics
👉 Pudendal Neuralgia and Hip Pain

What a week its been! Thanks to City of Whittlesea on hosting quite an event with the Local Business Awards night. It's been a humbling experience with the nomination. The recognition is a win in itself, as it highlights our ongoing mission to elevate awareness and provide support in pelvic health and women's health, areas where so many continue to suffer in silence.
To the winners, congratulations! Your achievements are well deserved and inspiring, shout out to .👏🏼

When Inner Active Pelvic Health & Physio was launched six years ago, the vision was simple: to help one mama at a time, driven by my own personal and professional journey. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine we would come this far.

A heartfelt thank you to the Whittlesea community for your support.
