School TV Special Report: Building Belonging Post Pandemic

As a result of the pandemic, there are still many young people struggling to connect and regain their sense of belonging. This Special Report provides guidance to families who find themselves in this situation. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM!
Year 10 Japanese had the pleasure of doing a live ZOOMing with their Penpal buddies from Japan (Hirata Seifu JS)! There were two different sessions, both of which were very たのしい (fun) and おもしろい (interesting). Shiritori was the favourite game of the day. Students wracked their brains for words that started with the same Hiragana that had ended the previous word.
We showed off our drawing skills on Gimkit but they amazed us more with their attention to detail. They wrote about us in their blog too! You can see it here https://hiratajupialish.blogspot.com/2022/07/summer-english-internationalexchange.html?m=1&fbclid=IwAR3RHDGuidLtRB1PToUHYtpcPR5bAYYVgKsuwUP9Ohyj122EreQHFALdPlg
Very much looking forward to our next online meeting!

SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to recognise and learn more about the history and culture of indigenous communities.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced back to the Aboriginal rights movement, when on Australia Day 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney to highlight the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. Today, it is a week-long celebration held in July that consists of range of traditional and contemporary activities.

NAIDOC Week is an important event that helps build positive relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. It enables a deeper understanding of our differences and similarities. NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to eliminate bias and discrimination by reflecting and reconciling the wrongs of the past to facilitate hope and build a fairer future. Families are encouraged to join in and support young people in learning the significance of NAIDOC Week.

This Special Report offers suggestions on how families can celebrate NAIDOC Week together. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please seek medical or professional help.

Thank you as well to Big Music Shop for donating such a generous raffle prize which will no doubt provide an enriching experience for the lucky winner!

The Hot Potato Band came to Cammeraygal last Friday and presented an inspiring workshop for students in Concert Band, Jazz Band and Drum Group. The Hot Potato Band worked intensively with Cammeryagal's ensemble students to teach them about group performance, soloing and having fun with music. After the workshop a performance was held in the hall for Year 8 students where the ensemble students played alongside the Hot Potato Band. What a fantastic day!

The Year 12 Community and Family Studies class is currently studying their core unit, Groups in Context. One of the groups of focus is Homeless People. On Friday 18th March the class visited The Mercy Foundation in Crows Nest to learn about what their foundation does to help support and advocate for the homeless population in NSW. It was a very informative and engaging workshop and we look forward to going back soon to help pack a 'Home in a Box' box, which is an initiative run by The Mercy Foundation to help individuals establish themselves into new homes after a period of sleeping rough.

Important Athletics Carnival Update: The Athletics Carnival will not be happening on Wednesday 23rd March. The carnival will be rescheduled for Term 2.

Photos from Cammeraygal High School's post 14/03/2022

On Tuesday the 8th of March women all over the world celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’ with the theme of: ‘Gender Equality today for a sustainable Tomorrow’. In our own school community, Cammeraygal High School also celebrated International Women’s Day. Here are some of Cammeraygal High School’s young mathematicians celebrating International Women’s Day in the maths classroom.

There are lots of exciting opportunities for maths enrichment this year. Starting April to October students have the opportunity to study the enrichment programs of Euler, Gauss and Noether. In August the Australian Mathematics competition runs where students get to attempt some very interesting mathematical problems. In September students can compete in the ‘Cammeraygal Kahoot Challenge’ where students answer multiple choice questions on Geometry, Number Theory and Algebra. Students can see their maths teacher for more information.

07/03/2022

Due to the forecast of poor weather tomorrow the Athletics Carnival has been postponed till Wednesday 23rd March. Tomorrow will be a 'normal' school day.

What a day at Gibberagong!
Alice in Year 7 recounts her experience of the day:
"Last Monday we went to The Basin for a school excursion and did loads of fun activities! Firstly I had free time where we got to play with soccer balls and dip our feet in the water. We then had a sponge fight and marble run race, it was so hard! Then we went fishing which was fun although no one in my group caught anything. My favourite activity was stand up paddle boarding. The people who didn't do stand up paddle boarding went canoeing. To get there and back we got to ride in a fancy coach. All in all, we had an amazing time and I'm grateful to all the teachers and helpers who made it possible."

This month on SchoolTV - Understanding Adolescence

Adolescence is the transitional stage of development that is usually associated with the teenage years. In 2018, the Australian Curriculum Assessment Authority, redefined adolescence as affecting young people aged between 10-24 years. During this time, they experience rapid physical, cognitive and psychosocial growth which affects how teenagers feel, think, make decisions and interact with the world around them.

During adolescence, a child's brain can be considered as being “under-construction”. The rate at which this progresses will vary depending on the individual and also their gender. As a result, some parents may view adolescence as stressful or difficult. However, it does not need to be. Setting boundaries, implementing consistent monitoring and maintaining a strong and loving connection will help families adjust during this time.

It is also an important time to keep the communication lines open through clear and age appropriate conversations. Speak openly about changes that they are experiencing and be conscious of their mental health as many of the conditions people confront in adulthood, can begin to manifest in adolescence.

In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers can learn how to guide and best support their young person as they transition through adolescence. We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this month’s edition, and we always welcome your feedback.

If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Cooler Classrooms Update:
The Pacific Campus is in the process of having air conditioning installed in every learning space. It was hoped this would be completed prior to the term commencing, however there have been delays due to contractor staff shortages. We do look forward to having the new air conditioning system up and running in the coming weeks.
