We're pleased to announce that AMTA is now a full member of Mental Health Australia. We are proud to also share and support their vision for mentally healthy people and mentally healthy communities.

AMTA looks forward to adding the unique perspective of registered music therapists to Mental Health Australiaโ€™s united voice, which is heard in the development of key national mental health reform priorities.

Our Advocacy Officer, Hannah Halloran, and CEO, Bridgit Hogan RMT, met with MHA's CEO Carolyn Nikoloski this week to discuss our shared priorities and initiatives to improve the lives of people living with mental illnesses through improved and equitable service. We're energised by this collaborative partnership.

The NDIS can be difficult to navigate - whether you're a participant, planner or provider.

That's why we've recently published a statement to help provide clarity around music therapy and the NDIS.

In short: music therapy is a therapeutic support under the NDIS. Only registered music therapists who are members of AMTA are qualified to use music as a therapeutic intervention.

AMTA has policies and procedures in place to deal with complaints about people who are not registered music therapists providing 'music therapy'.

Read the statement on our website: https://www.austmta.org.au/news-item/16475/ndis-funded-music-therapists-must-be-amta-registered

Pure presence and deep listening offers a chance for us to connect with ourselves and also others on a more profound level. Intuitive Music Therapy is a space created where music is the main tool guiding us in many ways.
In music therapy we use music, instruments, voice, movement and fun to develop social communication skills, speech and language skills, fine and gross motor function, self expression, self regulation skills as well as support mental and emotional wellbeing.

Yesterday, February 12th, was International Epilepsy Day.
There are currently 5 distinct phenotypes of SCN8A-related epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders. In plain language, "phenotypes" are the different ways this condition (SCN8A) shows up in people, such as how it affects their body, health, and behavior.
I've been honoured to have worked with clients with SCN8A to support them with music therapy. There are studies that have verified that music therapy can be effective in the treatment of epilepsy. The effectiveness of Mozart music in reducing epileptiform discharges and seizures has been confirmed in different clinical trials, case reports, animal studies and evidence based medicine.
In my experience as a music therapist I have observed my clients relax and settle with more regulated breathing patterns as I have played rhythmic acoustic music to suit their breathing with guitar and singing songs favoured by the client themselves.

A message from Jake, "I am from Manchester in the United Kingdom and I am currently studying my Masters of Creative Music therapy at Western Sydney University. I hope to become a Registered Music Therapist after finishing the course. I can offer music therapy assistance as well as guitar and music production lessons. The reasons behind becoming a music therapist are because of my interest in the fulfilment of helping people whilst being able to harness my passion in music."

"There is no right or wrong way to grieve. We all grieve as we have lived." From the book Coping with Grief by Mal Mckissock & Dianne Mckissock. A few months ago I had a young client pass away. It wasn't the first client of mine who had passed away within the last year. It's always a challenge to hear the news. After hearing the news, the next day I walked into a local bookshop and picked up the book Coping with grief and read it within a week.

Recently I have learnt by experience how to support those that are close to me who are experiencing loss of a family member or a loved one.

It is a great reminder to live in the moment from a place of love and to continue wishing others the same.

The photo is of a ceremonial circle I created for myself to sit in a shamanic journey over the weekend to drum and sing while connecting and paying my respects to the land, as well as those close to me, past, present and emerging.

The Power Of Sound: 528 Hz 16/04/2023

https://www.to112.com/blogs/news/the-power-of-sound-528hz

Did you know that John Lennon composed the song 'Imagine' in the frequency of 528Hz (known in this article as the love frequency)?

"This frequency brings transformation and an increased amount of love energy, clarity of mind, awareness, activated creativity, and inner peace. It also has the ability to activate your imagination, intention, and intuition to operate for your highest and best purpose."

In Biofield tuning this frequency is also considered useful for DNA repair as well.

Do you guys know the song 'Imagine' by John Lennon?

There are a few interesting reads on this topic.

The Power Of Sound: 528 Hz Can you recall a time when music helped to alter your mood? Maybe you were stressed out so you put on some slow, calming music to ease your mind. Or maybe when you first wake up, you listen to upbeat, funky tunes to help set your intentions for the day. The fact is, music has a profound effect on ou...

The beginning

Intuitive Music Therapy provides a safe, therapeutic environment allowing individuals to access and express their innate musical being. Renรฉe ensures individuals feel supported to self express through music and music related activities by intuitively meeting clients where they are at in the present moment. These activities focus on developing non-musical related goals to enhance day-to-day living.

Based in the Sutherland Shire, Renรฉe has been a professional musician for over 10 years. After completing her Master's in Creative Music Therapy at the end of 2018, Renรฉe has decided to continue sharing her creative music expertise with the world whilst passionately incorporating her interpersonal and intuitive skills to help others.

Renรฉe has a wide range of experience working with children and adults with disabilities alongside professional Registered Music Therapists and Allied Health Practitioners. As a Registered Music Therapist, Renรฉe is dedicated to contributing to her local community to create a safe Music Therapy space for children, adults and elderly with a wide range of abilities.
